Review summary
All the experiences of my cruise with NCL were good/excellent until we opened our suit case off the ship.
I booked this 7 day cruise and enjoyed from Aug. 18 to 25, 2014, stayed at state room #6201. The cruise staffs had worked hard to entertain the guest, provided good food and show/game programs for the travelers. We were very much enjoyed ourselves.
We planned to do some back-country hiking in Alaska after the cruise. So we brought one extra suitcase with us, containing all camping materials. This suitcase had been traveled with us starting at the beginning in Maryland without any problem, including all airlines. Since we did not plan to use any of the items in that suitcase, we even did not open it.
After we arrived at our destination for back-country hiking, the Denali National Park, we opened that suitcase and found a notification from your security team, indicating some items had been taken for security reasons, such as lantern top, vegetable cutting knife, etc.. We even stopped by at Anchorage and purchased propane fuel for our light equipment. How disappointment we were when we were facing the dark with the fuel, but without lantern top!!
We have no problem to understand and accept that your security team took those "in-danger" items. But we were upset when they took our personal items with sending us any personal notification. Sure, they sent us notification, packed inside the suitcase. How would we know if we had no plan to open that suitcase??
We even heard the announcement on the day of discharge, noticing the passengers to pick up their personal items that were taken away. How would we know if our personal items had been taken away without receiving the personal notification?? How would we know to see the notification inside the suitcase if we had no plan to open it and use any of those items on boat??
Sending a personal notification is a trivial thing for your staff to do, while we had received several personal notifications during those 7 day cruise. Imagine how disappointed we were when we facing the dark in the mountains? Imaging all the accumulated joys, happiness and satisfactions had been taken away by our disappointment because of this single issue? NCL security team really needs to improve their services.
Again, I appreciate all the NCL teams, especially the food, cleaning and entaining, who had worked hard for us to enjoy. Special thanks for Richard and his team!
Sincerely,
Fan Xiao

I will agree with Crusin Tim in the matter, to a degree..... 1st .. after travelling anywhere , Once I get to my destination I check all the luggage I checked in to the airlines. I've lost a few items to luggage handlers, mostly some cheaper type gifts and souvenirs. I got re-embursed from the airlines. My wife had a special bottle for her sisters on her first cruise... she got a note and the bottle back at the end of the cruise.. The security teams have a job, and if you had opened up to check your case, you would have probably got the stuff back right away once you explained the situation. Contact the security dept. of the cruise line. This blog and site cannot do this for you.

I would recommend that you contact NCL directly to try to recover your items. It is unlikely that anyone from NCL will read your post here on this site. I also recommend that you contact the moderation team here on the site to edit your post and remove your personal information (name and address). With identity theft in today's world, I wouldn't recommend that you ever post data such as your name and address on ANY website blog. I do have a question, you keep bashing NCL security for not notifying you of the items removed from your luggage. You have indicated you had no intention of opening it until after the cruise. How would NCL know this? I do not know anyone that has cruised with a suitcase that didn't contain items for their cruise.
