Review summary

The freestyle cruise was definately the way to go for us. We really like having the freedom to choose what we want to do and when. Overall, it was fantastic and we will definately be back for more.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The many food options were almost overwhelming! Some of the best food we've ever tasted. The Japanese and French food was divine.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We would have liked to see some coordinated sports activites for the guests to participate in. For instance, there was a volleyball net which, to my knowledge, was never set up or used. It would have been nice if there was an organized game for those who wanted to play. On the other hand, there was plenty of free booze to be had at several different events. We especially enjoyed the wine tasting with the knowledgable and jovial somblier. Also, the art dealer on the ship was spectacular and the art selection was really impressive.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The crew works so hard with not a day off for six months at a time, and they were still so friendly and helpful. They were great!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The only complaint that we have is that there was no one monitoring the halls and stairs, which resulted in packs of wild kids stomping through all day and all night. Everything else about the ship was absolutely perfect.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had an inside stateroom, and were pleasantly surprised that the room was quite a bit bigger than we expected and very comfotable.

Ports of call

Cozumel, Mexico

In the morning, we took the beginner's SCUBA course and had a blast! The instructors were so patient and helpful. Absolutely breathtaking! Then, we hopped a cab to Playa Mia and spent the afternoon eating great food, sailing a hobycat and relaxing on the beach. Costa Maya is a beautiful place with a great atmosphere and friendly locals.
Don't Miss: Playa Mia is fantastic and a reasonable price.

Belize City, Belize

5 out of 5
Another long bus ride, but again, the cave tubing was SO much FUN! The locals were great and we really enjoyed just walking around the pier meeting people and sampling drinks!
Don't Miss: The locally brewed stout beer is strong and tasty.

Santo Tomas De Castilla, Guatemala

Again, more bus time, but the Quirigua ruins were well worth it. The mayan estella monuments were incredible and our guide Fernando was the best!
Don't Miss: A short walk through the town led to a great local restaurant right on the water. We loved the curried plantain seafood soup!

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
We spent the entire time ashore travelling on a bus to and from and exploring the Kohunlich Mayan ruins. A very impressive site and a great guide.

Pros: the exquisite food and service

Cons: the noise from the halls and stairs

Recommends Norwegian Sun? Yes!
