Good Cruise, Ageing Ship by mcwayne2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our cruise out of New Orleans was a nice comfortable cruise. Our experience with the onboard staff was wonderful. Collin, our stateroom steward did a fantastic job. It was unfortunate that I didn't pay enough attention to stateroom size. The stateroom we had, 8102, was very small and cramped. I had to climb over the bed to get into bed and my wife and I continuously bumped into each other when getting ready to go out. I'll pay more attention the next time. We both found the Freestyle buffet OK and the Versailles and La Cucina food very good. One aspect of the ship was not in the best cosmetic condition I would have expected. Of the two chairs in our stateroom, one had torn upholstery. We also found a few other chairs and seating around the ship that had torn upholstery. In the La Cucina Italian Restaurant, there was dried food stuck on one of the window curtains. That should have been caught by the staff and either cleaned or replaced. In the Versailles dining room, one of the curtains was falling off its track. This also should have been noticed and corrected by the staff. I would recommend the cruise to others but with the caution about checking stateroom size. I hope Norwegian puts more effort into maintaining the cosmetic condition of the ship.

First Cruise! by lmcentyre

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Ship was nicely appointed and very clean. Once you learned your way around it was easy to navigate. We loved the Freestyle cruising. It was great to eat when and where you wanted to and with the people you wanted to sit with. Loved the freedom. It was great not to have to get dressed up to go to dinner. We worked our eating schedule around the activities we wanted to participate in. We had fun playing games, attending game show, etc. The pool area was always crowded. The shows were cheesy. Magic show was predictable. We sat up in the balcony and could see the trick from above. Singing shows were ugh.... great for old people that can't hear. Food was OK. Thank goodness for all of the choices. At least everyone could find something they liked. I expected better quality in the upcharge restaurants. The Italian place was the best one of the cruise.

The cruise that sailed without us by buschfamily

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had delays on our flight to New Orleans that went from a short rain delay to terrible planning and rescheduling by United and therefor arrive in New Orleans 5 1/2 ours late. My husband was on the phone every chance he could talking with United Cruise and Norwegian, unfortunately they could do nothing to help us get on a plane that may have got us to the ship before it sailed. Upon arrival in New Orleans a cruise representative met us in baggage claim and told us along with others that we could get on the ship in Belize. The next morning we did research, found a hotel in Belize, found transfer from the airport and to the ship. We called Norwegian to find out exactly what we would need to do in order to get on the ship in Belize. We were told we could not board in belize because the ship just dropped anchor and did not dock. There would be not custom check in, we could not take our luggage on the small boats to get on the ship, and the weather might be bad. So we thought our cruise hope was lost. Later a rep. from Norwegian called us and asked if we planned to get on in Belize. We told her what we had been told. She called a port person with Norwegian and he said yes we could get on as long as the ship stopped there but weather could play a part. we got excited again until we contacted the travel agent that Norwegian said we should use. She said she called Norwegian and they told her we could not board in Belize. Slam goes the door in our face again. Later a rep. from United cruises calls us and ask if we want to board in Belize. We explain our whole story and she calls Norwegian, they say you can as long as the weather is good. So what is up? We have been told yes 3 times and no twice. Which is it. Do we spend the extra $650 and take a chance on getting stuck in Belize. Norwegian needs to develop a standardized plan that they can tell their customers when they miss the ship. We were told that there were 14 people that did not get on the

Pretty darn nice. by David

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Bermuda

I have been on every cruise line once and norweigean was the last. Next to the expensive elite lines, norweigean was up with the best overall. Not too much of any one thing and just enough of everything to keep everyone entertained. Didnt take my kids but cant wait to on my next cruise which will be norweigean.

NCL Star to Bermuda by Putnam615

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Bermuda

We sailed out of NYC to Bermuda on 9/16/12 for 7 nights. Everything was great. They are a little expensibce & spend a lot of time trying to make more money. That is my only issue. I loved the cruise & the port totally & we are booked to sail again with NCL on the Breakaway on 10/12/14. I cannot wait!

We got gipped! by Rebeccam1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Bermuda

We paid $2400 in advance plus $199 to CSA Travel Protection for insurance a year before the trip. A month before the cruise my husband had back surgery and spent three weeks in the hospital, didn't recover well. We had to cancel the trip. This is what we recovered from the $2600 we had paid: $366.34 (taxes only) from NCL and $374.95 from the insurance company. That means they made close to $2000 on a couple that couldn't make the trip and that took out insurance. What a dishonest group these two companies are!

A really nice Cruise by PaulS31

Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Bermuda

I really liked Norwegian Star cruise. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. Spending most of our time at the pool and by the bar, it was very relaxing. The Free-style cruising was awesome. No set schedule, just do what you want when you want.

less than average by BarbaraSumbatian

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Bermuda

very few meal selection, towels were changed but poorly washed , many times towels were replaced with stains on them, including pool towels, linen was not changed at all not even once for entire cruise, cafeteria area was too small, people did not have place to sit, shows with exception of the last one(last night show on a cruise) were low average. 4days at the sea make many people sick including myself. junk that was sold in a shop was overpriced, and by the way where in the world silver jewelry cost as much as on a ship? I felt that weather condition was used to suck the money out of people pockets keeping them on a ship for 4 days. You think you can over smart people, guess what this was my 6th cruise but the last on NCL.

First Norwegian And Not Last by christhecruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Bermuda

Sailed Star from NYC to Bermuda. Stayed in a SJ suite and enjoyed the butler. Ship was smaller than the norm today but very nice and easy to get around. Staff was very friendly. This was my intro to Norwegian and liked the product and will sail with them again.
