The good, bad, and ugly by DonS12

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Ship was pretty good. Cabo stop was too short to do anything but eat and shop. Other two stops were enjoyable. I thought there would be some benefits to being a latitudes member. I experienced none on this trip. Service seemed to diminish as the cruise progressed. We experienced rough seas the last two days. Several passengers experienced motion sickness.

Norwegian Star Cruise 12/08 by CarrieC

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

We had a wonderful time on our Cruise. We took our 4 year old and grandma! Thank goodness we got separate rooms since the interior rooms are very small. It is worth it to book the separate room for kids or other couples. We made sure ours were next door to each other so It wasn't a big deal and really didn't cost us anymore. We could hear our son having a good time.

Slightly disappointed by CynthiaP1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

From our first day on the ship, we were upset to find out that the porters either lost or stole our Bose headphones (valued near $500.00). Although the ship was apologetic, they also said not to "trust" the porters with expensive items such as those next time. So if NCL would actually say that about thier own employees, then why hire them and put us passengers at risk of losing valuable items? Secondly, we were disappointed to find out the great deals others got (along with amazing upgrades and ship credits) from the amount that we paid. Some had much better rooms for a fraction of the cost that we paid. These two issues combined busted our bubble and kinda messed up the rest of the cruise for us.

Good cruise for the price by CrystalB6229564

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Overall we enjoyed our cruise. We had a great time & there were both pros & cons. The buffet food was decent, but not the best. However, almost all restuarants had cover charges ranging from $10-25 dollars per person. The Versailles and Aqua were amazing. It made up for somethings that lacked about the ship. Puerto Vallarta was the best part. The tours were unforgettable. The ship was beautiful, but you have to pay to utilize most amenities The indoor pool/jacuzzi was $20 per day per person and all restaurants had cover charges (except 2 restaurants, the 24 hour lagoon cafe and the market buffet). The outdoor pool was VERY cold and small, plus the kids took over it. I absolutely LOVED the Blue Lagoon because it was open 24/7 and the food was fresh hot. This took all my worries away. I liked having an ice cream bar too. AND the Ice Cream was real (no soft-serve). Our housekeeping was more than we expected. They always replaced our towels & were always available when we needed them. We would have been lost without them! They cleaned our room twice a day & that was a definate plus. The ship was always clean. I was impressed how clean it was everything was clean from the tables that we ate at, to the elevators, also the lounges, in the restrooms, on the deck and everywhere else. I like how they had hand sanitization stations everywhere. I liked having room service for breakfast (FOR FREE!). It helped us get out of bed on time & the food was perfect for our mornings. This was what kept me from hating the cruise. DRINK PRICES WERE ABSOLUTELY INSANE If drink prices weren't $10 per drink & instead made them the same price as regular bars, then we would have bought drinks. Everyone I talked to on the ship agreed with this statement. I HATED how I couldn't go anywhere on the deck, in the theater or in the lounges without being harrasses by waiters every 5 minutes. They kept asking us if we wanted drinks over & over & over again. This was one of the biggest turnoffs. I just might not book a crise with NCL because of this. It made the cruise a hassle, not relaxing and I went on the cruise to relax. PRICES FOR PICTURES WERE RIDICULOUS Prices for the pictures that were taken on embarkation, on ship, & at the ports were ridiculous. I would definately pay $5 per picture, but not $15-20 per picture. They shouldn't print out the photos before you buy them so that they can sell photos for cheaper & also there would be less waste.

Mexican Riveriera by MicheleN

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

This is our 5th cruise with NCL and not the greatest. The weather was wonderful, the locations were fabulous, the ship and staff, not so much. Food was adequate, service average, only two stellar employees. Entertainment was good, enjoyed Murray the magician, The Second City and Romano Frangipani the juggler. We upgraded to a balcony cabin this trip and didn't feel it was that much better. One great sunset, floorplan was not great, too much furniture in the room to move around. We put tables and a chair on the balcony.

Great time for all by FrankW

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Ship was fine--did not find anything that was unclean, did not work properly or any negatives. For the most part, all ship crew were friendly, exception being ladies working the restaurant reservation desk on the day we boarded the ship (acted as if they were annoyed by questions) and same was true from a one or two who worked at the information desk during the cruise. Did not find this to be true with any of the male crew members.

not what you would think by ColemanJ

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

I was dissapointed the price per drink was higher than I would pay at any nice reasturant. I was also dissapointed in the $10 per person per day charge. The tenders from the boat were way too hot and it took too long to get off of the ship to the port. I was also dissapointed in the ammount of reasturants that cost extra, especially since the food was not that good.

A great time as always!!!! by TinaL1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Overall I did like the ship. It was very clean and the public restrooms were easy to find. ( I have sailed on a ship that seemed to have limited public restrooms ) The water slides were alot of fun but they take away from the limited space in the pool area. The casino is large and has some great promotions! The staterooms have the largest bathrooms I have ever seen on a ship!!!!

Great Cruise (1 Lousy City) by KevinH3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

The ship was great, excellent entertainment, helpful and happy staff, and overall very modern and clean. Had plenty to keep you busy. Alcohol is expensive so be sure to bring a couple bottles before you board the ship.

Disappointed this time by BonnieW2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Previous trips on NCL were great. This trip showed that NCL has cut costs by lowering quality of foods, transportation to shore was difficult as there were only two tendor boats taking passengers to shore. Bottled water was $5.00 per bottle and Bud Light Beer the same price. Seafood was undercooked in dining room, making some passengers sick where they were quarantined to their rooms for remainder of trip. Maybe quality is low only on this ship as my friends on an east coast NCL cruise, was a much better experience. I was surprised as NCL has been good in the past. Would not recommend this ship or cruise.

Nice Escape by JenniferH7

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

It was a nice break from our day-to-day life, but we took a different cruise line prior to this trip, and I'd rate that one superior. I enjoyed the entertainment and found the entertainers to be talented. The cruise director's staff was having a good time, which is always nice to see. The rooms were larger, clean, well-maintained and superior to the previous cruise line we've taken. The food wasn't great, and employees constantly forgot to bring us items we asked for (like drinks). The child center was mediocre and my son was yelled at. There weren't enough "free" dining options, and the specialty restaurants were expensive.

Beatuiful Alaskan Cruise by RobertH17

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We just got back from the inside passage cruise of Alaska and it was wonderful to say the least. The dining rooms and staterooms were beautiful and the service was top of the line. The ports of call should have all benn in Alaska but one was in Prince Rupert, Canada and was terrible, It was a dowtonw are with nothing to see or do. They should have had an extra day in Juneau or another Alaskan port. We should have checked our itenerary before we booked! Even with this the cruise was wonderful. Restaurants were never crowded and no more than a 5 minute wait for a table for two at any time. The specialty restaurtants had a cover charge that was totally out of line and the food was NOT good at all in those.

Did not meet expectations by MichaelS3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was our 4th cruise in ten years. Two on NCL. We will not be cruising with NCL again. The meals were not up to expectation. Dinner was partly left overs from lunch in a different format. It was obvious and stale. For example, the cheese platter for desert was dried out cheeses served at lunch. The specialty resturants were not worth the extra money.
