Some what disappointed by larryj713

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

I have had mixed emotions about FREE STYLE from the very beginning. I can see the pros and cons of it. However on this crusie FREE STYLE DINING meant that you culd wait to eat in a line for an hour while the ship gave big, big preference to over 300 Chinese came on board and insisted on all eating at the same time. I would think that FREE STYLE meant FREE STYLE for every one. MANY NOT HAPPY. Another thing, The food in the main dining room was sub-standard to any crusie we have taken before (we have taken about 25). Of course they have 5 special dining rooms abord that you can pay $30.00 dollars a person at which to eat. It is like they are forcing you to pay for the food. My wife and I have worked out way up to GOLD but we will never reach PLATINUM because we won't sail again on NORWEGEIN. This was a 26 day crusie we took and in that length of time you hear and talk to a good numbe of folks. Take my word for it, there were a lot of folks that was unhappy on this cruise. Wonderful time by Tri1sha

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The staff on Norwegian Star were great. They were all very friendly and very helpful. We would like to suggest that the Guest services, Trade Route store and/or the Oasis Pool would have sunburn relief treatment. There was none available anywhere and the shore stores weren't very well stocked or knowledgeable either.

Nice Cruise with Norwegian by LTCEdwards

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship facilities, amenities and personnel were all very nice, although the pool seemed a bit small for the amount of people using it and the number of deck chairs insufficient to handle the crowds. We had a balcony room and found it very nicely appointed. Food service was excellent, prompting an "emergency" diet upon returning home! :-) Prices were reasonable, although we thought Carnival had slightly better prices for the same amenities. Offshore excursions seemed overpriced, there we did not participate. (A problem that does not seemed to be limited to Norwegian.) Ports of call: • Porta Maya (Mexico): Not much there outside of the security "buffer" zone. The setup for shopping was nice with reasonable prices; the bars offered drinks at US prices (albeit cheaper than on board the ship). • Roatan (Honduras): Once again, a nice security/port area, but horrific poverty is "in your face" once you step outside of the gated zone. • Belize City (Belize): As above. • Cozumel (Mexico): Probably already well enough covered in other reviews. All-in-all, not a bad trip. We enjoyed ourselves and were able to secure a fairly good rate through the site.

great time, could use some tweaks by kkel

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

we had a great time on our cruise. Zip -n- Dip in Roatan with Victor Bodden Tours was the best!!! Food onboard was good, meat over cooked though. Ship was clean and staff friendly. I would recommend to ALL cruise lines to have one side of the ships balconies smoking and the other side non smoking. I loved my balcony but couldnt breath the fresh air because I had smokers on both sides. It would be nice if smokers AND non smokers could enjoy their balconies. Also a video arcade card that parents could put money on for their kids would be nice, that way parents can keep track of how much their kids are spending. Getting off and on the ship was organized and easy. All in all a great time.

Was not happy with having to pay $112 to park in NCL gravel open air parking lot..then having to trudge a block to the terminal...boarding went quickly..fam balcony room was crowded with excess furniture(we stacked it). Dinner was great as was all the food.Show was wonderful as were all the shows. Back to room and it is freezing cold and water is running all over the floor..toilet pipe broke...call for help..slow to arrive till my inner bitch visited guest services...all was fixed..A/C was stuck on high..it was 45..brrrrrr...rough start to a wonderful cruise!

Wonderful Trip! by zipliner

Loved Norwegian Cruise Line, everybody was very nice and very helpful. Stateroom was very nice and our Stewart was great! Food was really good. Excursion office was very helpful and we had a blast on our Excursions. My Husband has Parkinson's and we had to bring a wheel chair and they were very accommodating for us which was very nice because this was our first big trip with a wheel chair. This was very important to me.

It was fun by ladycaer

The ship is old but in good shape. The crew was great, full of good spirit and happy. They had washy washy people all over the place that sprayed your hands with antibacterial spray when ever you went to dinner or came back on the ship at port. Thought that was a very good idea for everyone not getting sick. Food was good but got kinda boreing by the end of the cruise. The shows weren't all that great although there was one that I liked. I loved our stewart, Moe. He made us little towel animals and always called us by name. Made you feel special. All and all it was a good cruise. Loved the ports of call that we went to.

Good cruise - just what we expected when we booked it. Food was good and all the tours were excellent. We like to go out of New Orleans because we can drive and not have the added expense of airfare getting to the port.

Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The food was great and the entertainment excellent. We went to the beach and got massage on beach great massage great price, 1 hour 20 dollares on Costa Maya. Tried Zip Lining on Roatan most fun I have ever had. Rented a car on Cozamel and went to opposite side from where we docked and had a blast. Came back around found wind blowing and very chilly but we coundnt tell till we got around to side we were docked on. Weather bad last day but enjoyed time in casino. All in all best cruise ever except for mediterranian cruse but cruise part better on this one. We enjoyed cruise very much. The pay for restaurant werent much if any better than dining room we didnt pay for.

I've been on 14 different cruises and this was the easiest embarkation and debarkation that I've every seen. That includes the Norwegian Spirit twice, the Royal Caribbean Voyager of the Sea and many Carnival ships.

FALLING STAR by joananello

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

fair............the toilet was enclosed and lacked room. Had to turn sideways to use it. NO room on toilet hit my head on wall. You didn't have another room to change me to, so I used the toilets by the resturants. Tables at the buffet were missing shells, a good place for bacteria to grow. They should be sealed. Small TV's at this day is a joke. My laptop has a bigger screen. My room did not have any hair conditioners, face soap, or lotion. If i would of known this i would of brought my own. This is the first time on a ship that these little things were missing.

Norwegian Star-Western Caribbean by ganlem

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship is good in general; but the food is only average. Of the 4 ports, 3 of them are above par. The other 1 (Roatan) could have been deleted from the itinerary and should have been replaced with another port.

Much better than Carnival cruises! by barnett

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Love the Free-Style dining! Didn't have to line up for a set dinner time like on Carnival. In fact, we had no trouble or wait getting into the regular dining rooms, the Versailes and Aqua; however, would recommend making reservations early in the day for them as well as the speciality dining. Tips are added automatically to your ship bill. The food seemed better too. Liked the shower glass doors. We left New Orleans on Jan 26 and returned on Feb 3rd, 2013 for the Western Caribean 7 night cruise. There weren't very many kids and strollers on board this time of year. We got very lucky and the weather was beautiful until the last port, which wasn't so bad that we couldn't get out and do some shopping. I don't think it was a beach day. We were all welcomed back on the ship with a big party the crew put on between our ship, the Star, and the Peral. Service was very good. The shows were very good. The only thing I would have to complain about are the TV's in the staterooms. Ours was a very small one, not a flat screen either.
