problems for wheel chair patrons. by byrnesv

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This route-  All shore excursions were  not wheel chair friendly.

The handicap room on the Star was not as good as the Pearl to Alaska

The floor was not straight into the bathroom which made it both difficult and some what dangerous for a chair and walker.   There was a upward slant in the floor going into the bathroom and down out of bathroom.     The room itself was smaller than the Pearl      It would have been much safer to have the floor level into the bathroom.

Cruise Trip by finlfam5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a wonderful trip on the Star.  We really

appreciate seeing all the work that went into

keeping the ship Bacteria free. We also appauld

the staff serving the food--we felt safe at the food line.

You should continue having staff serve the food

instead of guest serving themselves- we felt so much

better when the staff served-I know that I have said

that TWO times!!! Thanks for a wonderful trip

and for a virus free trip.

Unique itinerary, smaller cruise ship, fun experience by westjudyann

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Having never cruised to Mexico, I loved the addition of two countries, Honduras and Belize. This cruise satisfies those craving outdoor experiences as well as cultural ones. I am not a sports or beach person, so enjoyed the cultural and best of tours in each port. The ship is a Panamax, meaning it is not one of the huge ships, so it is very manageable. I would rate the food as 4/5, largely because I enjoyed the flexible dining options. There are no lobster  and baked Alaska nights, however. There were the usual games and acitivities. The pool area was smaller than on most ships, but, frankly one of the days I was confined to the cabin and the weather was cool, so that did not bother me. I enjoyed the entertainment....aerialists, dancing shows, comedy. My favorite night was the presentation of Paradis. The cruise director was humorous and two of the staff, Guido and Kenneth, were especially fun and friendly. Glad I experienced freestyle cruising on Norwegian.

Been on 4 NCL cruise ships Star rates last. by jimbo117

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Disappointed in dinner menus, food just acceptable, some crew members very helpful others need help especially in understanding questions put to them.

One Star is for entertainment and the other star is for captain and crew for getting us to our ports safe and making disembarking EZ.

Excursions by annbeauch

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise shows were excellent, better than other cruise lines.  Lots of activities and the slots weren't turned down after the second day, like other cruise lines.  We were very pleased to take this cruise.  Price was a little high for a last minute cruise.

The one excursion through the Norwegian Star to Tulum should have been cancelled due to the rough waters.  Half the people got sick on board, not a nice feeling at lot.  Wouldn't give free water to the people that were sick.  The excursion should have been cancelled.  The next excursion was cancelled after ours.  The excursion was from on the ship the Norwegian Star.

Other than that, it was enjoyable.

Some positives, but a lot of negatives by rcoop913

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The positives:

1. The best gym facility that we have seen on a ship

2.  The Assistant Cruise Director and 2 of the Cruise Staff (Kenneth and Guido) were great; the show performers were very nice, especially when they had to work the buffet line due to a viral outbreak on the ship

3.  The Ginza Noodle House had terrific food

4.  The room was pretty nice

The negatives:

1.  Overall, the food was mediocre

2.  Several of the crew were clear misses.  The cruise director acted like a frustrated stand-up comic; the DJ seemed to genuinely dislike people; Nesh in the fitness center was downright scary

3.  The show material was TERRIBLE, especially the Burt Baccarat--we felt sorry for the performers!

4.  There is TOO MUCH effort to add revenue during the cruise by charging for everything possible; in addition, the prices charged were roughly 20 percent higher than we have seen on other cruise lines.

5.  The cabin steward was very nice, but clearly overworked--14 rooms/person too much (we generally see a 2-person team with 20 rooms, so roughly 10 rooms/person.)

January/ February cruising by Cruiser828

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The week was enjoyable once we got the hang of things like booking restaurant times early on. There is lots to do, and we got involved. Enjoyed one sunny day on the deck. Got enough tan for the week! Everything was spotless, and staff in all departments4558 working 24-7 to make us happy.

Did not miss a show, very entertaining. The casino was a little "tight" if you know what I mean but didn't give up all week. The buffet was great and always a place to sit. The food was super and lots to choose from. Enjoyed the evening meals and looked forward to the desserts. My room was always comfy and I slept like a baby with the waves rocking the boat.

We had a small health issue which the crew handled with a smile. They had such great teamwork to keep the rest of us healthy. We couldn't touch a bathroom outside door or a dish in the dining rooms. They did a super job for sure.

Winter Cruise 2016 by barblocks

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Favorite: ports of call, food, walking around the deck. Cabin was very comfortable. Staff was kind, friendly and helpful. Everyone spoke English!

The food choices were generous, especially fruit, vegetables, and vegetarian options. The food was tasty, not overly fatty or salty: there were choices. I could have chosen salty, but fortunately there were healthier options.

Great food, shows and entertainment amazing, but a couple let downs by haremailus

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a great time on the ship. Being a smaller ship, didn't have the "wow" factor with initial reaction. The food was awesome, we got the dinner package, Cagney's steak house was so good we changed our reservation to go to it twice. The Moderno was amazing also, we couldn't get everything it was so much food. The Cuchina place, Italian food, was pretty good. The staff did there best to sing to us for our anniversary, they are not for the main stage for sure, but loved the heart behind it.

The shows, although as a musician, was a little let down by the mostly canned music, the talent of the performers, dancers, acrobats, comedian and all the costumes, the lights. I was very impressed.

The couple of let downs, from what we know from other ships, the drink service was very limiting. NO DIET COKE Sad the wife sad. With the unlimited soda package it was very limiting the locations and the waits were discouraging. Other ships have self serve drink fountains, much better. Also, no adult only section, solitude, or space. I know this is a smaller ship but would have been nice to have a section for adults, a little more relaxing.

The service was ok. Our wait staff was very kind, and room attendant very accommodating. But walking around the ship, the workers over all didn't seem very happy. We had a few very happy and giving but, just a general unhappy.

The getting in and out of the ship, whether for ports or the first and last day, very impressed. I don't know if we just happened to time it well each time, or what, but very happy with the efficiency of getting on and off. Not a lot of unnecessary waiting.

Wonderful experience! by mrope

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had booked the Owner's Suite which we have done on other cruise lines in the past. However, this was the most spacious and beautiful one we have have experienced!

It was well worth the price. The amenities and upgrades it including were beyond our expectations!

Star cruise was wonderful by lechevy6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The experience on the Norwegian Star to the W. Caribbean was great.  The accommodations, the crew, the staff, the food, the entertainment was top notch.  The ports and shore excursions were great, too, except we were canceled in Cozumel due to wind and waves.  The downside of the cruise was the strong winds on the last 2 days--we weren't able to enjoy the pool deck and some entertainment was canceled due to the rough sea.  Thankfully we didn't get seasick.  You can't control the weather and the crew made the best of it.

EXPREIENCE ON NORWEGIAN STAR by moef2009

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I HAVE BEEN ON 8 CRUISES WITH NORWEGIAN AND THE STAR WAS THE WORST.1ST,WE WERE GIVEN 100.00 ON BOARD CREDIT WHICH I USED TO BOOK 2 SPECIALTY DINNING WHEN I HAD BOOKED THIS CRUISE.ON MONDAY WE WENT UP TO CHECK THE MENU TO SEE WHAT WE WERE GOING TO ORDER FOR OUR 1ST SPECIALTY DINNING,UPON DOING SO I NOTICE THAT THEY HAD CHANGED TO A LA CARD.I THEN TRIED TO GET ANSWERS ON THIS BECAUSE WHEN I BOOKED THIS CRUISE,IT WAS NOT A LA CART.I FINALLY TALK TO SOMEONE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD ONLY HONOR 30.00 EACH TOWARD DINNER AND THAT I HAD TO PAY THE DIFFERENCE.I TOLD THEM THIS WAS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN,THIS WAS FREE WITH MY PACKAGE,THEY DID NOT WANT TO HERE IT NOR DID THEY WANT TO HONOR MY PACKAGE.WE ENDED UP GETTING 25.00 ON BOARD CREDIT.2ND THE CABIN WE HAD WAS VERY NICE BUT NOISY ALL THE TIME.EVERY TIME THE PEOPLE ON EITHER SIDES OF US TALKED OR PUT THE TV ON WE COULD HERE THEM AS IF THEY WERE IN THE SAME CABIN WITH US. IT'S NOT LIKE THEY WERE LOUD ,I DON'T THINK THEY PUT ANYTHING BETWEEN WALL,I'M SURE THEY HEARD US ALSO.DECK 5 WE WILL STILL CRUISE NORWEGIAN,NOT STAR

Very disappointed with Norwegian Star by romanojoe5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The positives were the weather, specialty dining restaurants and the excursions.

The negatives were an old ship, terrible customer service, cheesy entertainment and very little activities.

The ship had one little room for the kids club, no use of computers and marginal activities. The kids show was the worst I've seen on a cruise. One of the kids showed up at the show and was told she couldn't participate. They didn't tell the kids what time to show up. One of the two small slides was broken the entire trip.

We complained about the embarkation time as this was the first time Norwegian did this. Customer service said just show up whatever time you want but wouldn't give us a written confirmation time. This was after several calls on hold for 45 minutes. Also, when we arrived at our room, there was an obstructed view. We booked a "guaranteed oceanview." We complained to the customer service manager, who said tough luck the ship is full.

As for the entertainment, I felt like I was in a time warp from the 80's. There was a circus show, bad comedian, and a song and dance show. All terrible.

Lastly, the activities were so bad we hung out at the pool.

Don't cruise on this ship.

Disappointing Food, Service, and Staff Friendliness by carvelmay

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The main reason my wife and I chose this cruise was because of a few of the destinations. We've only sailed with Celebrity prior to this cruise and found ourselves making comparisons. There is no comparison. The overall quality of the food, service, and friendliness of the staff was less than desirable. A few of the staff were great, and we appreciated their kindness. Each of the excursions we chose were good to great, especially two of them...one in Belize and the other in Roatan. The entertainment was actually better than we expected. We had a nice balcony cabin, and the cabin service was very good, but overall, we probably would not sail with Norwegian again.

Great ship with spotty service by gea4957

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly, loved the port shopping and local color. It seems like the food on NCl has declined in quality unless you pay extra for the upscale restaurants. This was my 5th cruise on Norwegian and the worse ship food yet. My wife is not picky at all yet she admitted the food lacked taste and texture. Worse ship pizza ever!!!Wink
