Wonderful 7 night cruise on Norwegian Star by toprodtn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall a wonderful experience and I would not hesitate to sail on the Star again. Our balcony stateroom was small but comfortable and service was excellent. Food options were plentiful and always excellent. Staff were always friendly and helpful.

Con: not enough pool loungers and bar service was non-existent. Always long lines on deck and in bars. The tendering was a mess, we waited in lounge 3 hours to get off and were an 1 1/2 hour late for our beach reservations.

Spring Break Week Cruise by rricardo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

First, we knew we were purchasing a very affordable cruise with free beverage package, we needed a specific week at a specific port, so that said, for the price it was a good cruise.

Our room smelt like smoke, we were below the casino, and since the cruise was full we could not be moved to a new room. Two ports were tendered, it took hours to get off the boat to get on shore, one port we couldn't get off the ship until 2pm we were sailing away at 6! Since everyone had free beverage package, so lines were very long to get drinks, waiters don't go out to serve you, you have to go find them. Only one pool was an issue during at sea days. Food was not very good, even in the pay restaurants. The shows were only ok. No kids clothing in gift shops. But overall for the price it was an ok cruise.

Nice Relaxing Cruise with good ports of call, but the bar service was poor. by classyauto

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

For the most part I enjoyed my cruise on the Star, the ports were very nice, the food was Great and there were a lot of things to do. The ship is very clean and up to date, the staff is very friendly, but it could use some more night life.  one big issue we had  was the poor bar service due to under staffing, most wait times for beverages was over 10 minutes in a long line across the pool deck or in the lounge areas. Also if your child is not 13 at the time the cruise starts they have to go in the children’s area, this is a foolish policy my child was 8 days away from 13 and her friends we traveled with on the cruise were all 13, but she could not go in the same area, you need to use a bit of common sense and empower your staff to make smart decisions.

Norwegian & <img class='agent-replacement' src='/images/hideagent.png'> are a great team! by Hnalar

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Booked cruise thru and glad we did. Sailed on the Norwegian Star in November and March and in spite of some tender issues and one bad dining experience on the March cruise that the Maitre D' made amends for had a great time.  We look forward to cruising again on Norwegian and will definitely book with .  Mitch followed up to make sure we were ready for the cruise  and that the cruise met our expectations.  Glad that customer service is alive and well.  As we say in the US Navy - Bravo Zulu for a job well done.Love

Disapointed by joedazzio

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My wife and I really looked forward to the "5 Star Experience" on the Norwegian Star. We have previously cruised with all of the major players in the cruise world. This was our first trip via Norwegian cruise lines. I can promise you it will be our last. The food was OK, entertainment was non-existent, and the staff was pitiful. Unfortunately the "Freestyle Cruising" they claim makes vacationing better is awful and poorly explained. The only possible way we may have enjoyed this cruise was if we never cruised before. We had previous expectations from better cruise lines go onto the boat. (i.e Carnival & Royal Caribbean) None of which were met by the Norwegian Star staff.  I could go on and wright a book about the poor experience. However I don't get paid to warn you. So please think twice before booking Norwegian. Save yourself the disappoint.

Tampa cruise by dbarsalou

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Food was good but not great.  Entertainment was very good.

Staff was friendly and responded well to request. No mention of the student

break crowd that would be on the ship.not that it would have made a difference as they were fun to be around.  Some individuals would have scheduled differently

had they know the makeup of the group.

Free booze package ??? by Trevor501

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

You will be doing a lot of waiting to get a cocktail. Most Bartenders were very rude. The rest was OK. Food was average. Love the sun so $599.00 for a 7 day NCL cruise you will need to suck it up on some things.

Norwegian Star Cruise Review by Cruiser588

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We enjoyed our cruise; it was very relaxing---we were limited in our ability to access the Versailles Dining Room due to all of the stairs---my husband is legally blind and negotiating all of the stairs was hazardous for us.  All of the staff, from embarkation to debarkation were very friendly and accommodating.  Our minisuite was very nice.

Windy/High Waves by bsb4199

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

High winds and high waves prevented the Star from docking at Costa Maya, Mexico, so the Star went directly to Cosumel, Mexico and stayed overnight. Our Costa Maya shore excursions were refunded, but we sure missed the port call. Ship captain said it was his decision. Not as many misquitos, as we had expected in the Southern Caribbean, We sprayed at each port of call, the cruise line did nothing. Told passengers it was their responsibility to protect themselves from misquitos and the Zika virus. Cruise line did not spray the ship, while in port. Last cruise for us on Norwegian Cruise Line.

Review of Norwegian Star cruise March 6th - March 13th by PapaGG

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Longer than expected dining times for dinner in the two Dining Rooms. One night our dining experience took 2 hours & 15 minutes. Three evenings we sat at the table for quite some time before a waiter even came to our table. The wait time between courses was too long. We had 6:30pm reservations each evening and the least amount of time we spent at the table was 1hour & 45 minutes.

Long lines for bar service! Unable to get to the pool/hot tubs as Spring Breakers were living in those areas. At one point, we counted 21 people in one hot tub, 19 in the other one. Any effort to get to one of the hot tubs was met with..." No room here, folks". We did enjoy our evenings in the Atrium and at the bar located at O'Sheehans. Our room was nice, though the last morning on ship, the room steward had moved our carryon luggage off the bed and was making up the room around our things. It was 8:00am & we had gone to breakfast with plans to return for our luggage at that time. We were off the ship by 8:30am as we were instructed to do, but I felt you could wait to begin cleaning, changing beds until we were out of the room.

It was ok by cbbryan227

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I will sail again on Norwegian, but only on a new ship.  Norwegian Star was outdated, food was ok at best, staff.....for a cruise line, the worst group of people I have sailed with.

Destinations were fun, and the people I traveled with made the trip.

Western Caribbean Cruise by agrunhovd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My daughter and I recently returned from this 7 day cruise. We were very pleased with our stateroom.  The room as clean and our steward was very efficient.  The meals were excellent. We dined in each of the restaurants and were pleased with the food.  There were many choices available daily at the buffets.  We also enjoyed the "Theme Nights" regarding food.  Several meals were prepared poolside and those were delicious as well.  The entertainment was fantastic.  There were a variety of types of performances and the entertainers themselves were outstanding.  I would highly recommend this ship and cruise line.  The staff throughout the ship were helpful and did whatever they could to ensure we had a wonderful cruise.

Fantastic Trip!! by shellielundgren

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our only complaint is that they did not serve freshly popped popcorn anywhere on the ship.  The weather was perfect.  The room was very comfortable and our room steward, Juan, did a fantastic job.  We loved the towel animals and extra pool towels.  Wonderful coffee and meals in all of the restaurants.  We were not able to stop in Costa Maya for reasons unknown, however, we did get an overnight in Cozumel.  We enjoyed the "freestyle" atmosphere, but would have liked to have more servers available poolside.  We would definitely cruise Norwegian again.

Very pleasant and relaxing trip by pmermaiden

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

the Star is a very comfortable and interesting ship. Easy to get around in once you figure out the dead ends and dining room situations.  The itinerary was good although we had to switch the Belize port which was disappointing.  And we missed Costa Maya due to heavy surf.

there is not much entertainment compared to the Epic or Breakaway.  The staff was extra special friendly and accommodating.  The food was good to very good.

the spa was fair compared to newer and bigger ships, but it did the trick for what I needed.   It was also a tad more expensive than previous cruises for comparable accommodations.

all in all I had a very Lovepositive experience.

Will accommodate dietary requests! by xmissingpeacex

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group

I am vegan and I was worried about eating on the cruise. I has a guy named Hilario who would bring me a vegan meal everyday. It made my trip more relaxed knowing I had wonderful food options!

Relaxing Week by carolcb45209

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our time aboard was, for the most part, very relaxing and enjoyable.  We loved the freestyle dining and didn't have to wait in line regardless of the time we chose to dine.  Great staff throughout!

A word of advice...be careful where you book your cabin and if you like to turn in on the early side of the evening, DO NOT book a cabin on deck 11 under the pool.  They like to party late.

All was very good on the cruise with the exception of the food which was, IMO, bad quality. My room (5152) was also very, very noisy. The entertainment was fantastic!!

NCL star western Carib by Carribeanboun

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was clean and the staff where all very friendly . We had a great dinner at Cagneys 32 0z porterhouse was awesome,La Cucina  also excellent ,Le Bistro a fantastic 32 0z rib eye The brazilian resturant Madurnos two thumbs down service was slow and only brought the tenderloin around once our whole meal.

The buffet was very good every time we ate there .

The shows to us where not very good ,less than average.

The ship has only one pool that is small and crowded and the spa pool was a lap pool @$139 a week each ,no thanks

We had a inside cabin mid ship deck nine two small for us and not enough space to store our clothes .

Embarkation was not bad except you could not go to your cabin until 130pm I guess its a NCL thing . Disembarkation was smooth though .
