Review summary

The cruise price was very inexpensive, and for that I felt the value was good. I have had better experience on Princess cruises, although the entertainment on NCL Star was excellent. NCL now charges a "surcharge" for room service, it does not have a coffee card to purchase specialty coffees, but Starbuck's on board will gladly charge you $4.50 for a cappuccino.

Embarkation

Was able to board before noon, embarkation process went smoothly

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Buffet offered great variety, but food was not hot enough. Moderno was awful, not worth the extra money. La Cocina was excellent. O'Sheehan's service was sloooow, food was cold. Waited and waited for a second cup of coffee. Don't ask for anything extra like creamer or ketchup....it will arrive as you are just leaving.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Shuffleboard on Promenade deck is right in the pathway of joggers and walkers. Can't go to upper deck for shuffleboard as the sun was agonizing.

Entertainment

Excellent entertainment every night. Great variety, something for everyone

Children's Programs

no kiddos

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Tables in buffet area were slow to be cleared. Our room steward was very inattentive, don't know if it's because they have so many cabins to service. We could do without the towel animals for a bit more attention to restocking tissue and TP.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Disappointed in not having an Adult Only pool. Most of the public restrooms had fixture issues, ie broken or missing faucets and soap dispensers. Many toilets Out Of Order.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Note to self....NEVER book a cabin so close to the theater! Our cabin was right above it and VERY loud during rehearsals and late night shows. It was awful. Also, this area is so far from everything. The room had very little closet space, the bed was hard and uncomfortable until we finally got a mattress topper delivered which made it tolerable.

Ship tip

We usually sail with Princess but booked this NCL with friends. Overall, I'll stick with Princess.

Why did we even stop here? There was nothing to see except filth and poverty.

Take the excursion to Antigua on your own. Fantastic! You can hire a local guide once you get there for very little money. Just walking around this city was wonderful.

Disembarkation

They called too many groups before previous ones had cleared, which caused long lines with no place to sit. This was especially hard on seniors. We were on line for one hour and 40 minutes!

Lack of towel animals really spoils a cruise
