Review summary

Great cruise. Make sure you want to do 14 days. It can be boring after a while. You do get a lot of extra perks when booking a suite. i.e. a separate semi-private dining room for breakfast and lunch, free rooms service, reserved seating at the shows, etc. It does make it nice. But as mentioned, the room was not up to expectations due to the window problems.

Embarkation

We booked a suite, which was supposed to give us priority boarding. The agent at the beginning of the lines looked at our boarding info and sent us through the normal lines for embarkation. After 40 minutes we got to the front of the line where the agent "escorted" us to the "priority area" where we should had gone in the first place! We sat there along with ALL THE OTHER priority guests who had the same issue we had. Not at all well coordinated.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Ship is "old" but is due to be updated later this year. The food in the main dining room was "acceptable" compared to other cruises we have been on. Nothing great. The specialty restaurants are much much better we at in them 5 times during the cruise. In 14 days we only ate a the buffet lunch once (other then to grab a cup of coffee).

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

Been on many cruises and the ships band & performers were better then most we have seen.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
With a suite they bring you snacks, cheese, fruit, etc. every afternoon. It just "shows up" in your room! Room was always cleaned and turned down the moment we left the room. Great service.

Ship Quality

No issues. Everything worked. But you could tell the ship was a little worn and needed some updating. Scheduled for later in 2018.

Cabin / Stateroom

We booked a suite with floor to ceiling windows to enjoy the views. The airtight seal between the windows panes had failed resulting in condensation and "fogging" between the window panes making it difficult and sometimes impossible to see though the windows. THIS IS WHY WE UPGRADED TO A SUITE! The hotel manager visited the room and acknowledged the issue but indicated only only fix was to replace the windows which would be done later in the year when the ship was in drydock. The room itself was great. About the same size as Holland American suites. Very good service.

Ports of call

Cartagena, Colombia

We don't usually do excursions but in this case we took the Hop on Hop Off bus. You get the same "Old City" tour as others booking a more expensive tour specific to the Old City. Due to limited time you can't really "hop on and off" the bus or you will never make it back to the ship in time. But you do get a good look at the city.

Panama Canal Transit

Have done it before for it is still interesting. Expected to go through the new locks, but because the ship is less then 1000 ft long it goes through the old locks.

Puntarenas, Costa Rica

Did the coffee plantation tour. A long drive for about a short tour and buffet lunch.

Puerto Corinto, Nicaragua

Did the banana plantation tour. Very interesting and a good tour. Afterwards you go to a "Hacienda" which is not a hacienda, rather a building built specifically for tourists for shopping.

Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala

Didn't take an excursion. (All involved a 1.5-2 hours drive each way). The is nothing at the port itself.

Acapulco, Mexico

Have been here before so did not do an excursion. Walked thought the old shopping area for about an hour. Was planning on visiting the old fort (right next door to the ship) but it is closed on Monday.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Have been to Cabo many times. (First time 30 years ago when it was a single old dock and gravel streets). Best thing is Cabo is the Starbucks you can walk to.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
Our "disembarkation time" (they do it by the color of the baggage tags based on flights, tours, etc.) was 45 minutes late. Claimed it was due to U.S. Custom delays. Once our time was called it still took 45 minutes in line to exit the port. Customs took 30 seconds.
