Fun time but few disappointments by heathermarlow

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We had a great time. The housekeeping staff was great and the rest of the staff did an amazing job. We were a little disappointed with the actual activities that were done or should I say not done. No Ice Sculpting and there could have been more Family Friendly things plans. A lot of Shopping related activities or things that you had to pay extra to do.

Great value cruise! by NGF

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Ports were fun. Suggest parasailing, snorkeling, zip lining, and swim with dolphins.

Best shopping for jewelry was in St Thomas. T-shirt prices are best in Tortilla.

Also recommend parking with Park-N-Cruise (prepaid for best price). Cruise staff was friendly and provided fantastic customer service. If you drink a lot, definitely buy or choose the unlimited drink package.

Only had 2 complaints:

1. Food selection could be better in regular dining rooms. No lobster or crab legs on menu any of the nights. Sushi only available in specialty dining room for extra money.

2. Deal or No Deal activity was overpriced for minimal participation.

3. Bing was overpriced with no Grand Prize awarded (money kept by NCL Spirit) with nominal prize awarded.

very bad ship by seahag1947

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was my 14th  cruise 7 with Norwegian. The last 6 was very nice. But the Sprit was almost a bad dream. This ship had no communications with the passengers.Ship was dirty and rusty. The glass on the balcony was so dirty you couldn't see through them. The food was sub par. There were not any place at the buffet to get a coke you had to walk to a bar to get one. by that time your food is cold. You could only get milk at a certain time. Had chocolate milk only the first day. Had to chase down the room attendant to ask for things that he didn't leave in the room. This happen 6 times.Buffet run out of certain foods 30 minutes before change over and when I ask for it they said they were changing over for the next meal. When at sea all day, you couldn't find an empty lounge chair at the pool. This is not typical for Norwegian ships. I didn't understand why the crew was like this. I go on cruises because I like to be treated special. If the cruises are going to be like this don't waste your money. Find an all inclusive resort to go to it will be a lot better believe me. I will cruise again to see if this was just a bad ship or if this is the way it going to be in the future.

We had a great trip. But, don't go during college football season! by Bill2571

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The GOOD:

The room was clean.  Friendly staff.  Fun trip!

The specialty restaurants are great....but, expensive.

The BAD:

Getting off the ship (everything was behind schedule and we had to be out of the room for hours before we could depart the ship.

The buffet food could be better.

The drinks are very expensive and EXTREMELY watered down.

The UGLY:

The coffee in the buffet area is HORRIBLE!

If you are a college football fan, do NOT book this cruise during bowl season.  The workers on the ship are into soccer and will not allow college football to be televised during their games (and soccer is televised all the dang time).

If you want to sleep as a couple in the same bed, they push two twin beds together.  By the middle of the night, the beds came apart and one of us was always in the crack!

Best Vacation ever!! by mlspirit

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our vacation. the staff was very nice and accommodating everywhere  we went. we enjoyed the entertainment and sadly and happily we both gained at least ten pounds!! lol There were a few things that could have went better. we lost out on our ship credit because we failed to fill out an additional form. We assumed that after we printed our ship documents we were all set. We also enjoyed the freestyle dining, however, the wait between dinner and dessert was consistently long.  The last issue I had with Norwegian was their refusal to show college football during New Years. Nonetheless, we are considering a trip to Panama in 2017 and will definitely use  !!Happy

Ship is old... by Cruiser302

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Wonderful service in the suite. Would not like to be in any other type of room on this ship. I found there was way to much drinking thus many loud and vocal people..  Food was less than great. Almost always over cooked.

Not Fun Cruise by mwboger

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Food that was supposed to be hot was cold, and food that was supposed to be cold was room temperature.  Service in the main dining room was terribly slow.  The weather was not great, seas were very rough and therefore the ship was rocking a lot when we were at sea.

Norwegian Spirit December 2015 by dbsayjr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Excellent staff, very good food, most entertainment was good, bands around the ship were also very good.  Trip was very relaxing, thank goodness for smooth sailing on the way back as the weather can be a factor on long sailings.  Tortola was beautiful, and the local tours and people we met were fantastic.  USVI was also nice and the island people were great,  but not enough time there.

relaxing by gitiriazi

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall it was a good trip.  The food was good, and we enjoyed the entertainment. Disembarkation could have been a bit smoother; especially when tenders were used!  The excursions were very pricey. Also, I noticed in a few instances that people with drink pass were getting free drinks for other passengers; maybe it was because drinks were too expensive!

Norwegian doesn't care by aquila2100

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Western

they talked me into their website, which I purchased and then didn't have access to. Their solution purchase it again on the boat, wifi okay if it's 1978 but not acceptable by today's standards. They ended up not charging me twice but they could not handle, had to email Miami.

TV Remote missing buttons and only worked if arm extended as TV placed so remote would not work unless standing in front of tv

NFL games non existent only local TV games shown. NCL Beleives no one watches America football.

Food was actually pretty good.

boat very disorganized - with automatic credit card tiping crew has no incentive to perform & they don't!

ok, I guess by curtizphelps

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This ship has to many restaurants that you have to pay for and the ones like the formal dinning room are kind on boring with very average food. If you buy the card for all the alcohol drinks you want that's all you get, not even water. If it don't have alcohol in it 4.50 for a bottle of water.   Not much to do on this ship, the days events are a long list of things like art auctions and buy this silver or this watch. The good side is it wasn't very crowded and hum, I guess that's it.

Nice Cruise by ILovToCruise

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Western

For those of us living in central Florida, the Port Canaveral port is very convenient.  We used Park N Cruise which I would highly recommend for parking.  Go to their web site to see recommendations and experiences of others.

The ship is nice, but starting to show its age.  In fact, it is to be replaced by the Epic next fall.  The deck plan is a little awkward, but after a day or so, you easily adjust.

The food is good to very good.  We ate in the buffet a few times, but most of the time ate in the Windows, a more formal dinning room.  The food was very good and staff as throughout the ship is excellent.  We had one of the best steaks ever in this dinning room.  We did not eat in the specialty restaurants, but comments from others were very favorable.  The food in the buffet was of a great variety and also very good for the most part..

There is plenty to do on board and on the tours.  We did not take any tours as this is our 27th cruise and have seen the sights in most of the locations.  We had not been to their private island before and it is very, very nice.  They have several beaches, beach chairs and many covered areas.  If you want to get a group together for lunch, they can accommodate you  either in small covered  private area overlooking the ocean or in larger common area shelter.  I am sure their is a fee involved, but unsure.  Also, they have ATV riding, parachute rides, walking trails and all kinds of water sports for a fee.   The liquor package is honored on the island although you will pay an additional 7.5% Bahamas tax. You tender to the island, but it is well organized and only a very short ride of maybe 5 minutes back and forth.  They also has some small shops where locals sell items, a band, many ship supported activities and a nice lunch on the island.

Entertainment was good to very good, especially for a smaller ship.  I believe from the size and responses of those attending, they had similar feelings.

The rooms are nice and in keeping with most cruise ships and lines.  Again, the cabin steward was very good and promptly kept the room very clean etc.  Again, everyone was very polite and friendly, not to mention efficient.

Boarding and disembarking the ship was well organized and almost effortless.  We normally have carried our bags off, but this time decided to hand carry only what we needed after packing and leaving our bags to be taken to shore.  We went down for a leisurely breakfast and after a few minutes waiting and chatting with other travelers, walked off without having to deal with the suit cases.  You can select a time frame which to disembark the night before.  The suit cases were waiting for us in one area upon departure and within a minute at most, were walking through customs and out of the building.

This is a little long, but our experience with the ship and the cruise.  Would I recommend the cruise?  Yes, as most cruisers would find this a nice cruise.

Love

Great destinations. Food and atmosphere were lacking. by stephj122

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The food on this cruise was lacking. Many times, I felt that my dinner tasted like a frozen meal. I believe the ship was too small for my liking, as I felt every wave and rocking motion.

We had an awesome time by heatty37

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a great time on this ship. This is definitely an older/smaller ship then some out there right now, however we still had everything that we needed. The ports and excursions that we went on were outstanding.  We did do the specialty dinner package which was well worth it. We had never done it before, but certainly glad that we did.

Nickel and dime'd by mrailey

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I did not enjoy the feeling of being taken advantage of, many charges required thus actual price of cruise is at least 50% higher than advertised. I expect churches for alcohol just not to eat , drink and being merry. Probably would not choose NCL again. Very limited food choices, poor seating and reservation system. Freedom cruising is freedom to wait in a line with reservation and no reservations.

Disappointed... by JimNasium

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The first night out was rough with some of the crew and everyone with me, except me, got sick. The stablizers on the ship were not working properly as I understand it. The food in the dining rooms was not up to par with my last 6 NCL cruises and the service was very slow. It didn't appear they were staffed properly and it took forever it seemed. The toilet stayed backed up in my cabin also. The ship was clean but you could tell her age was catching up with her since she was built in 1998. Might be time to put the old girl out to pasture. The bar staff was friendly but the deck waiters seemed to be few in number. On the pool deck the bar shut down at 7pm. Couldn't figure why the band was playing to a near empty pool area. The entertainment was very good as usual on NCL and that was a plus.  When did NCL start charging $7.50 for room service that surprised me. We were cruising with first timers and had told them about the FREE room service.  We're debating if we will sail NCL again too. I am a silver Lattitude member but have my doubts after this one.  Can't give the NCL Spirit a high rating on this outing so if you have a choice of another ship grab it.

NOWHERE NEAR MY EXPECTATIONS by allenb919

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Nervous I HAD HEARD THAT NORWEGIAN WAS FAR MORE SUPERIOR THAN OTHER CRUIS LINES BUT I WASN'T IMPRESSED WITH OUR CRUISE. FIRST OFF, OUR BALCONY STATEROOM WAS SMALLER THAN THE ONE ON CARNIVAL LIBERTY. 2ND, THE FOOD WASN'T ALL THAT... BREAKFAST WAS REALLY THE ONLY ENJOYABLE MEAL SINCE THEY DID HAVE BACON AND EGGS. 3RD, THE SHIP SWAYED AND ROCKED THE FIRST 2 DAYS AND THE LAST DAY OF OUR CRUISE. (NOT NORGEGIAN FAULT, BUT IT DID AFFECT OUR EXPERIENCE) 4TH, THE TENDERS TO GREAT STIRRUP CAY...... OH MAN, A TERRIBLE STORM CAME UP WHILE WE WERE CHARTERING BACK TO THE SHIP, THE TENDER WAS ROCKING LIKE CRAZY, PEOPLE BEGAN TO PANIC. IT WAS THUNDERING, LIGHTENING, THE WIND WAS BLOWING AND THE SEAS WERE ROUGH. IT WAS SO BAD THAT THE CROSSWALK FROM THE TENDER TO THE SPIRIT SHIP WAS JUMPING AND BOUNCING THAT IT STRUCK MY WIFES FOOT AND CUT HER TOE. SHE SPENT OVER AN HOUR IN THE SHIPS MEDICAL CENTER GETIING CLEANED UP AND XRAYS. OUR CRUISING EXPERIENCE WAS JUST NOT WHAT WE HAD ANTICIPATED. WE WILL PROBABLY SPEND OUR VACATION MONEY DIFFERENTLY IN THE FUTURE.

Family Reunion Cruise by lueyre

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise was OK but a lot needs to be improved on the Norwegian Spirit. For example I waited 30 minutes in the galaxy lounge for cocktail service and Never got offered a drink!!It was my birthday that night and I was highly disappointed they did give me a free bottle of champagne later when they found out but I was already upset about it!! The food was nothing special. One night I fell going down some stairs and I saw a crew member look my way but he did not come over to offer me help. My cabin steward "Micheal" was FANTASTIC!!! He always made sure we had everything we needed. He went above and beyond!! The shows were VERY good. It was so crowded however that lounge chairs by the pool were impossible to  get unless you got up at the  crack of dawn!!!Cruise staff were not very friendly either except for my cabin steward. Overall it was an "OK" experience but I don't know that I would recommend Norwegian Cruise Line to anyone.
