Overall, the cruise was a success. Service was not the best in comparison to other cruises I have taken. The food in the buffet, main dining room, and specialty restaurants was good but not great. Cagney's steakhouse is suppose to serve dry aged beef--the steaks served to us in Cagney's on two different nights was no better than the steak served in the main ding room. The ship was well maintained and clean, although the daily washy, washy, happy, happy routine at the buffet got a bit annoying. Nightly entertainment in the theater was better missed, and the band that played many of the clubs/stages was not all that good, just average. In all fairness I took this cruise for the itinerary and was not disappointed.

Had the dining package for this cruise--was told by Norwegian staff we wouldn't have to book reservations in advance--just do it once you get onboard. NOT! We were only able to eat in specialty restaurants 6 times--couldn't get reservations!!! Frankly, the food in the main dining room was as well prepared as any we ate in specialty restaurants.

With the exception of one singing group the entertainment was terrible in comparison to the entertainment on my 4 past cruises.

Staff in main dining rooms really didn't seem to be too interested in customer service/satisfaction. I had to constantly ask for more water, asked the same waiter three times for hot water and tea. Specialty restaurant service was really not much better. Slow to refill water glasses, clean dirty plates, Cagney's steakhouse undercooked my wife's steak and overcooked mine.

Cabin / Stateroom

Cabin was a bit small for the price. Beds were extremely hard. Had a minor flooding problem with the toilet--wasn't plugged--the water just wouldn't stop flowing. Had to wait to take shower until problem was fixed about 90 minutes. This cabin is very well located, close to most restaurants and very little extraneous noise. Also close to stairs and elevators.
Ship tip
Use the stairs--the elevator is very, very, very slow. Not much of a gift shop onboard--and couldn't find anywhere other than a vending machine in the gym to buy bottled water.
Unless you have a magic carpet a good deal of this day is spent getting to and from Rome. Very difficult to get into the Vatican, or any other attraction due to long lines.
