Great cruise with an itinerary that will give you a sampling of the magnificent historical sites of the Mediterranean. The Norwegian Star is an older, smaller ship that has a closer, friendlier atmosphere than than the mega ships that are so common today. " Free style" cruising is nice for those who want a more relaxed dress code and less restrictions on dining times. Tons of ship sponsored excursions are offered to see all the sights you read about in your history class. Be forewarned that the really good excursions are long, crowded and hectic. If you have trouble walking or tend to wander from the the group you might get left behind. The tour guides are just that, not babysitters. Our party took this cruise in late August/early September and the weather was very hot (high 80's, low90's). As a veteran of many cruises I can say that this was one of the most enjoyable I have been on.

A tad small when compared to other ships but clean with good mattress and decent pillows. Balcony is just large enough to sit on with two chairs and a small table. Television programs really suck but who came to watch TV anyhow. The room was okay for us but for large people the bathroom might pose a challenge.
Did the Ultimate Rome tour. Again, long and hard but would not have missed it. Very fast-paced and not nearly enough time to see all there is to see. Bathroom facilities are few and far between in Italy.
We did the Capitol of Two Empires tour. Fast paced and long. Mosques are by their nature not very ornate on the inside so the photo ops are mostly on the outside. City is crowded and a tad dirty. Could have saved money in Istanbul by staying on board the ship.
Did the Ultimate Athens tour. Put on your walking shoes for this one. A long, hot, extremely crowded climb to the top of the acropolis but if you want to see the Parthenon and the temple of Athena it's the only way to get there.
