Review summary

We liked the ports and the crew on the ship. We were not happy with the way the cruise started out (late departure, being informed our itinerary had changed). We were not happy that the Observation Lounge was closed (leased to Park West for their art auctions). We did not like the layout of the ship and small venues - it led to crowding and probably the flu and Covid breakout that happened at the end of the cruise!

Embarkation

3 out of 5
On arrival everyone was notified first there was a delay due to lifeboat maintenance, then another due to an IT issue. The terminal became very crowded before we finally began embarking several hours late. To be fair NCL eventually gave everyone on board a $100 OBC and some FCC because of this and multiple other issues in this cruise.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was fine as far as cruise food goes, but the restaurant venues were all way too small and way too crowded.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
There are multiple ‘pools’ scattered around the ship. The main pool is very small. The others are like hot tubs or even foot baths along the edges of the ship. The fitness center is nice and well equipped.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The Donna Summer show was good.. but the Prima theater is small so did everyone who wanted to see it get tickets the 4 times it showed? Rebecca Kelly’s How To Be A Headliner show was great. The other venues where there was entertainment were so crowded we didn’t even bother.

Children's Programs

No kids

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
In our experience the crew of the ship were excellent.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
The layout of the ship was awful. It does not flow at all, it is chopped up and very difficult to find your way around. The common areas and venues like restaurants are entirely too small for the number of people on the ship - especially on a cruise to cold weather environments like this one!

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was a nice size and comfortable. The ‘farmhouse trough’ sink in the bathroom was an idiotic idea and, on top of being unsanitary (!) some countertop space would have been very useful!

Ship tip

Think again, or at least go to a warm weather destination.

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England

5 out of 5
There is more here than you think .. lots of history.. the Mayflower sailed from Southampton.

Zeebrugge (Bruges), Belgium

Flanders WW1 Shore Excursion is very informative.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Volendam and Marken Shore Excursion good way to see a bit of the countryside

Bergen, Norway Did not visit port

NCL cancelled our shore excursion.

Geiranger, Norway

Alesund, Norway

We took a Hop On Hop Off bus - located just off the ship - around the sites. We walked down from the viewpoint. NOT for someone with mobility issues!

Isafjordur, Iceland Did not visit port

The port stop was cancelled.

Akureyri, Iceland

5 out of 5
We went to Godafoss waterfall and the geyser field. Good way to see the north part of the country.

Reykjavik, Iceland

5 out of 5
The Ring of Fire ship shore excursion was terrible the guide did not guide at all. On our own we did an evening rib boat tour though Whale Safari and it was excellent - lots of whales, dolphins, puffins and other birds and animals. The guide was excellent.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
We walked ourselves off early (no luggage) and got in the taxi line to our hotel.
