Review summary

This was an amazing experience. From the moment we embarked, through each and every port of call we had the best time! The staff were awesome, the scenery was spectacular and every day was a new adventure.

Embarkation

The embarkation process was surprisingly smooth. Having seperate cues for non-US/Canada passport holders made the experience painless for us Aussies.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We had most meals in Tsar’s Palace and the food was of a very high quality. Dining in Cagney’s was the equivalent of some of the best dining experiences we had in Europe - really something special! Food overall was excellent and we were very well looked after in all the bars on board. Great variety of drinks to choose from.

Entertainment

Band on the Run, Australian Bee Gees Show and Cirque Bijou were amazing. Had many great nights with Fire and Ice in the Fyzz and Spinnaker Lounges. Battle of the Sexes and Majority Rules were good fun.

Service and Staff

Fantastic! Our room steward Manuel, Jose and Alfred in Fyzz Lounge, Cris and Aza in Tsar’s, Melvin in Maltings and CJ from Fire and Ice all made our holiday experience simply wonderful. They get 6 stars each!!!

Cabin / Stateroom

Very comfortable cabin. Highly recommend having a balcony on a cruise like this so that you can make the most of the amazing scenery.

Ship tip

Relax and enjoy. Weigh up your options on shore excursions, sometimes it’s better to do your own thing.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

Beautiful city. We had two days here before embarking and we could’ve easily spent two weeks!

Ketchikan, Alaska

Fantastic! Take the tour to Silver King Lodge. The wildlife is amazing. From sea lions and harbour seals swimming alongside our boat to watching bald eagles pluck fish from the water this was nothing short of spectacular! And to top it off with three humpback whales bubble feeding just metres from the boat - fantastic!!!

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
This place typifies the whole ‘last frontier’ ethos of Alaska. Just walking around the town felt like a step back to simpler times.

Seward (Anchorage), Alaska

Visit to the Alaskan Sealife Centre was really interesting. Great work with sick and injured Sealife. Exit Glacier was amazing, but be prepared to walk and climb to get the best views.

Cross International Dateline

Slept through it, lost a day....

Petropavlovsk, Russian Federation

Spectacular scenery and some beautiful architecture. Contrasting areas of crumbling roads, paths and buildings in certain parts of town was an eye-opener.

Sapporo, Japan

Nikki Whiskey tasting - hmmmmm fiery!

Hakodate, Japan

5 out of 5
Fish markets have to be seen to be believed. The view from Mt Hakodate is nothing short of spectacular. Great ramen to be had in town, about 2 blocks from the train station.

Aomori, Japan

No excursion here. Surprisingly low key and quiet even in the town centre. Som3 traditional shrines within walking distance of the port.

Yokohama (Tokyo), Japan

4 out of 5
What an experience, but simply overwhelming. Too bright, too loud and too crowded for this old fart!
