I would visit Alaska again in a heart beat. The Norwegian Jewel I will stay away from, both in service and upkeep this ship needs help.

Although Alaska adore not disappoint with its majestic views and wildlife encounters, the Jewel, However, does disappoint. The ship looks tired, from old chipped paint, to toilets that do not work, and the fine smell of sewage hanging in the air on random nights. The Jewel staff did not seem to be up to par for NCL either. When faced with problems instead of making every opportunity to correct the issue, they found ways to blame the passenger, not to mention, the excuses given as to why the room is not made up instead of making a correction.

Ship tip
NCL should really stop trying to squeeze money from an old ship! It noticeably needs an overhaul, and some of the staff does as well. The wait times from order to food delivery was some nights an hour, and it was not busy enough to justify
There is not much to do here but the 5,330 ft long zip line Does not disappoint nor does the amazing views! The staff on land is really friendly and treats everyone as welcomed guests
Frankly I am certain the only reason our ship docked here was simply to say they did. There was only about five hours at location. If you had an excursion, you had zero time to look around the town. Our excursion was a white water rafting a glacial fed river. That was fun, but there was too much rowing in our boat to be relaxing. A immediately back to the ship, no time for anything else. (Rather ridiculous and disappointing)
We had some time to visit the town after our excursion, the town is as friendly and beautiful and the rest of Alaska. We took a horseback ride through woods into an open perhaps marshland that looked out into the sea, again, amazing views, and amazing animals. The staff on land was friendly and informative about the area and how they live.
We took the Bareing Sea Crab Boat excursion on the Aleutian Ballad. One of the best by far!!! The captains kept us involved with stories of the ship and working the crab grounds! We were allowed to touch and hold the animals that were caught. The tour gave a family feel from those on the boat telling the stories. And I haven’t even mentioned the Bald Eagles! About 50 of them flowing over with wings stretched wide, swooping down to grab fish from the sea, amazing!!
Beautiful, we, on our own, visited Grouse Mountain. The food and gifts were pricey to say the least, but the views were unbeatable! The mountain is home to two Grizzly Bears that were rescued from injury, they play and frolic in the water and around the area not really pying attention to us onlookers and our cameras.
