Review summary

All in all we had a great time and the ship and staff were great to us. Our only complaint was the food served at the buffet. Come on NCL, when you set sail from an American port and sail to American cities in an American state is it too much to ask that you serve foods which we Americans are used to eating? Mashed potatoes, vegetables, maybe slices of roast beef instead of fried Asian noodles with dried out rice.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The specialty restaurants were great especially the Tsar's Palace. The buffet (Main shipboard dining area) had terrible food. We were forced to eat all of our dinners at the various specialty restaurants. Every night for the entire cruise they served Mexican, Asian, and foreign food which Americans are not used to eating. Most of the time I wasn't even sure what the food was but it tasted and smelled pretty bad. The only "American" food was the kid's menu of soggy pizza, hot dogs, and greasy hamburgers.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The entertainment was pretty good and I'd say Las Vegas quality. The 'Circus Bijou" is a small stage Circus Oli performance and was excellent. There was a comedian which was very funny and a magician. All in all the shows were very entertaining.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All of the ship's staff were very friendly, polite, and as helpful as they could be.

Ship Quality

The Port side of deck 7 is a smoking area but there were only six chairs on the entire Port side for smokers to sit in. Needless to say there are still many smokers who used deck 7 but they had no where to relax. Other cruise ships which I have been on usually have chairs and wooden benches made available to the passengers who smoke.

Cabin / Stateroom

My wife and I were very comfortable

Ship tip

Expect to eat your dinners at the specialty restaurants or pack along a picnic basket for dinners

It's a nice and friendly town. We went to the Lumberman's exhibition and had a lot of fun.

Not too much to do and expensive

Skagway, Alaska

Another nice and friendly town. We ate King Crabs and Halibut at a cute little crab restaurant right next to where the ship docked.

Well, a bit of diversity is nice - 'change is as good as a rest' -and remember, as BunnieBear says, not all passengers are American.

I watched a YouTube tour of the buffet and they had a real mixture of choices. Has that changed? Do the MDRs and O'Sheehans have the American options? There's a lot of Americans that do eat more adventurously but also they're catering to other markets too remember.
