Review summary

This was the first cruise for me and my wife. It was a great first experience, since we really didn't know what to expect or do on the cruise. We made the mistake of not purchasing the unlimited beverage package, and I was shocked at the price of the WiFi. We will be cruising again, but next time we will be smarter at the onset and have a better plan going in.

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was only good, and there turned out to not to be a lot of variety between the dining rooms and restaurants which was disappointing.

Cabin / Stateroom

The cabin was very small, but clean. There was a funny smell in there that I think comes from not getting enough fresh air circulating through it.

Ship tip

Buy the unlimited beverage package. The drinks are very expensive and it will quickly pay for itself.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington Did not visit port

Ketchikan, Alaska

The halibut fishing excursion was outstanding! Best part of the trip.

Juneau, Alaska

3 out of 5
The garden tour was disappointing/cheesy. Mendenhall glacier was good, but we were rushed and only got to spend an hour at the glacier which is not enough time.

Skagway, Alaska

4 out of 5
The zip line was great (wife did that), the train trip was cheesy and disappointing.

Victoria, British Columbia Did not visit port

We had to do an emergency medical stop in Prince Rupert that caused our arrival in Victoria to be very late. That was ok, and I was glad the captain chose the health of a sick passenger over getting to the next port on time.

Disembarkation

Very well managed!

The Jewel will be our first cruise too, although it'll be nice NOT having Wi-Fi; -)

We all learn something each time we cruise. Congrats on completing your first. I am willing to bet you REALLY DO enjoy your second one better with the experience you gathered.
