Review summary

Norwegian Jade is an older medium sized ship that is clean and very nicely maintained. We had a balcony room (9120) .The room accommodations were very tight.. The king sized bed was nice but took up most of the room making getting around a little restricted. The bathroom/shower area was extremely small  with very limited space for hygiene supplies. The balcony is of average size with a couple of chairs and small table. That being said our room attendant was consistently great and did an excellent job. The entertainment had a few nice shows but pretty much on the average side. Let me just say that this turned out to be an older crowd. My wife and I are in our sixties and we were definitely in the younger end of the crowd. Many activities seemed directed toward an older age group. The food in the buffet area was also pretty average, The blue lagoon is open 24 hours and a nice alternative a couple of days (especially on embarkation day) to avoid the crowds. I would also recommend the specialty restaurants of Cagneys and Teppanyaki. The ship never seemed crowded and plenty of lounge chairs were always available. The embarkation process went smoothly. Disembarking was a little slow but not too bad.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food in buffet was average. Food in the main dining rooms were good. The specialty restaurants of Teppanyaki and Cagneys was very good.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Entertainment had a few nice shows. A few more comedy shows would have been nice.

Children's Programs

Did not use these services.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room attendant was excellent. All the staff that we came into contact with were very friendly.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Cabin was always neat and clean. That being said the storage areas and bathroom are small and maneuvering around the bed is tight. The balcony is of average size with two chairs and a small table

Ship tip

If you would like to avoid the crowds at the buffet on embarkation day eat at the blue lagoon on deck eight. Nice way to ease into your cruise.

Ports of call

Tampa, Florida

5 out of 5
Stay at the Holiday Inn Express on the Courtney Campbel causeway( state road 60) next to Bahama Breeze restaurant. Inexpensive with nice views of tampa bay and short shuttle to cruise port. Very close to airport.

Key West, Florida

5 out of 5
Walk up and down Duval street and enjoy all the craziness key west has to offer. Stop in irish kevins and grab a guiness.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

3 out of 5
Not much going on in this port unless you book a beach excursion.

St. John's, Antigua

3 out of 5
Little bigger cruise port area. Kind of run down once you venture out of port.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

5 out of 5
Great. Cruise port area is large and clean. Take a walk to the left out of the cruise port (nice sidewalk) to the beaches and main shopping areas in town. Great beaches and bars. You can get two lounge chairs an umbrella and a bucket of six beers for twenty bucks.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

3 out of 5
The city has some great history especially around the fort which is a great sight when entering and leaving the port. Put on good walking shoes as the streets are very hilly. Heavy law enforcement presence around port.
