Review summary

Great first time trip to Greece and Turkey.  Could spend a week or more in Istanbul alone.  We did learn that weather in that part of the world can be unpredictable, just like back in the states.  We had to skip one port in Greece due to high waves in the port.  One nice thing about NCL was that any time a port was missed the captain had staff hand out free rum punches for about an hour.  Nice little extra that other cruise lines could learn from.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
NCL offers the best dining options among lines we have tried.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Some are corny but they keep trying.

3 out of 5
Wish they didn't repeat shows as often. Over 300 guests did a back to back like us and were treated to multiple performances of same shows.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
For folks that work 70 hours a week for up to nine straight months they manage to keep smiling.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Nice size ship, not too big that you get lost.

Cabin / Stateroom

Too close to Medusa night club - loud at night.

Ports of call

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

We did a free walking tour that lasted over 2 1/2 hours and the guide was terrific. He gives tours on the weekends on his own and works just for tips. Check: AthensFreeWalkingTour.com website before booking through cruise line.

Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey

5 out of 5
Blown away by size and details of ruins. Check: EphesusDeluxe.com for an indepedent tour which includes Istanbul.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

3 out of 5
A train to Pisa only cost 10 Euros round trip and you can see all you want.

Monte Carlo, Monaco

Very walkable city.

Toulon, France

Ship anchored 30 minutes away from actual city and a water taxi ride was required to get to starting point of all tours.

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
Hop on/hop off bus is worth taking. Reserve your tour ahead of time for LaSagrada Familia since they are scheduled every 15 minutes and if you are late you are out of luck.

Valencia, Spain

3 out of 5
Poor city but lots of green areas. Porcelein tour was neat and no pressure to buy afterwards.

Cagliari, Sardinia

We just walked around this hill city and took pictures.
