Review summary

Unsupervised, disruptive children and teens on the sailing led to a decline in my experience on the Norwegian Getaway this time around. The indifference of their parents affected the overall experience. The quality of the food and drinks also went down versus the time I first sailed on the ship the except at La Cucina. One thing for sure, the wi-fi worked great. Steer clear of school holidays!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Options in the buffet and the main dining room were not impressive, but there were a few standout dishes that were very good. La Cucina is consistently excellent.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The water slides were fun!

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Burn the Floor was fantastic. Comedian Dean Edwards rocked!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Kudos to the staff!

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Very easy to navigate without getting lost.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabin was fine although I had to wipe the salt and sand off the balcony railing. Note it is directly above the Waterfront so our view of the ocean was partially obstructed. Not a dealbreaker, however I didn't know this in advance.

Ship tip

Embark, disembark and eat early to avoid the crowds.

Ports of call

New York, New York

I live here.

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

Bermuda’s port, dominated by stony fortresses rather than palm trees, often disappoints with poor weather during my visits. Yet, it offers a handy pharmacy and convenient transport to Hamilton and St. George.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Took the excursion to Maho Beach which was great for planespotting. It is near the Sunset Bar & Grill where you have to pay a $1 to go to the restroom and there is no place to wash sand off your feet.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

I didn't see much to see and do at this port.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

5 out of 5
Beautiful city to stroll and browse and grab something to eat.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

The best port ever! Lazy river, pool, and seating at the cruise port are all free. Had a wonderful time. The merchants and the DJ were great.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
I did self-assist and a lot of people had the same idea as me. When areas became jam packed the crew was wonderful in opening up other passages for guests to disembark.

Appreciate your feedback. Glad you enjoyed your cruise even if it wasn’t as good as your last one.
