Thank goodness we travelled with friends so we could manage to have some fun and share our discomfort with. Horrified to see smoking allowed in the casino. For the first time in my life I was praying for a cruise to end
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Normal Southampton
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Generally good tho did not understand why as a couple we were occasionally allocated a table for 4 when this was next to a vacant prepared table for 2! Occasionally forgotten by waiters and once abandoned by a wine waiter-had to complain to manager who dealt with it eventually
Onboard Activities
1 out of 5
Card room/library pitifully small and regularly out of bounds since allocated to small groups(Bill Meet and ecumenical services)- surely other facilities should have been made available for them. Outdoor facilities usually closed in view of weather.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
Did not understand why so much entertainment was provided virtually in corridors
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
Cabin steward excellent but others variable
Ship Quality
1 out of 5
Clean. But nowhere to sit and relax in comfort and relative quiet. Theatre small and underused
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Bed and bathroom comfortable but room very narrow and bench seat uncomfortable
60 miles from Bordeaux and did not wish to spend hours on a coach for a small tasting of (undoubtedly cheap!) French wine. Nothing much to do or see in Le Verdon which is a holiday town now closed for the winter
No excursion. Dreadful berth for ship in sight of city centre but only accessible via shuttle and bus for which there was hardly time in view of late arrival
Best to do research before your cruise as far as ports and excursions go-you should have known ahead of time that the french ports arent near the top attractions. Some of the European ports involve taking a bus or train to the city, like civitavecchia for rome or warnemunde for berlin
If u want a fully non smoking casino, try Celebrity.
We enjoyed our cruise on the Getaway. Unfortunately, smoky casinos are on most cruise ships. The Prima did have a separate non-smoking casino.
In Europe, it is very common to have to take a bus from the coastal port to the city.
