We enjoyed the itinerary and some aspects of the ship but will not be booking a large ship again in the near future.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
From the time we entered the terminal it only took about 15 minutes to be in the ship. Fastest I have ever experienced.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Good as usual, I could always find something that appealed to me. Service on this cruise was different for some reason. I heard a rumor that they had taken on a lot of new crew and they were training. Example, every breakfast we had in the MDR we had a 50% chance of getting what we ordered. Several breakfast took close to two hours from sit down until we left. They ran out of iced tea, orange juice, butter and more. Very odd that such basic items would be under stocked for a 19 day cruise.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
We cruise mostly to relax so we don't take advantage of most of the "extras".
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
The wait staff often disappointed by not being able to deliver a complete order of food.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
We have decided we prefer the smaller ships. The public areas are crowded and noisy especially the Atrium. The pool and pool deck area has about the same amount of space as ships with half as many passengers. The waterfront area is nice when the weather is good. This area would be most useful on a Caribbean or other warm water cruise. We started out in the north atlantic so for the first half of the cruise it was not very useable.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
One of the nicest and most functionally designed interior cabin we have sailed in.
Ship tip
If you like a more intimate feel, less crowds and not having to make reservations for most things then don't choose the Getaway. If you want a nice ship with lots of loud areas and need rock climbing walls, rope courses, big water slides this may be the ship for you. We enjoyed our cruise but will choose to stay on smaller NCL ships in the future.
We were off the ship and in a cab in about 15 minutes. We got ready early and inline to disembark a half hour before the estimated time for disembarking. People later on may have had a lot more crowds to deal with.
Our experience has been the smaller ships are more intimate and offer more of a special treatment vs the larger ones we tried. We now only cruise the smaller.
