It was a beautiful ship with lots to do. It was my second ncl cruise and the Gem is the best!

The ship was comfortable and inviting, clean, and the staff were attentive. We did not like the freestyle dining because there were wait times of up to 40min. to eat on some nights.There were other dining options but these restaurants charged an additional cover charge.So freestyle wasn't so easy and free.

The Norweigan Gem is the best... they have the best crew and staff.. they are top notch.. the food and shows are excellent aswell. this was our second cruis with norwegian and now i wouldn't cruise with anyone else!!! The entire ship was sooo clean and spotless we were soo impresed!

This cruise line adds an automatic $12.00/ day service charge for each individual in your party. This gratuity is in addition to the automatic 18% that is added to each bar drink purchased, so be sure and take this into account when comparing fares with other lines.

NCL's review guidelines state "No disparaging an ethnic, religious, political, social, or other such group or organization." Too bad they don't use the same guidelines in hiring the entertainers. The stand-up comedian's "family-friendly" show was anything but. He ranted about various racial groups and used offensive accents based on ridiculously outdated and inaccurate stereotypes of Chinese, Indian,"Southern" (meaning black), and Italian people. Even worse was that a number of white teenagers and children who had seen his show ran around the ship the next day repeating the most offensive lines within earshot of other guests, clearly having learned from this comedian that it is acceptable to spew racist comments to get attention. This experience ruined our cruise. We will never sail with NCL again as long as this comedian is still getting paid to perform with our money.

Ship was clean, well maintained and crew was polite and helpful. The weather in Bermuda was not the best but you can't control the weather. My biggest problem is I need to fall a sleep with the TV on but there were only 4 channels, FOX NEWS, CNBC, E-CHANNEL and FAVORATE SHOWS. E-Channel repeated the same thing every 6 hours and FAVORATE SHOWS were syndicated TV shows like Everyone likes Raymond, but without commercials. The show would be 20 minutes, but the next show doesnt start until the top of the hour or past the hour. For ten minutes the TV would blinked on and off with the name of the next program that would be coming on. You can only imagine that the blinking would always wake you up.

WE LOVED THE SHIP. IT WAS MY HUSBANDS FIRST CRUISE AND HE CAN'T WAIT TO GO ON ANOTHER ONE.

They need to pick up the quality of food. Royal carribean has way better food but older ship. If you don't care about what you eat or eat in the buffet 24/7 this should not bother you.

they have about 5 restaurants that you have to pay extra to eat at, they call it freestyle cruising but we found it very hard and tiring to keep up with the scheduled hours of available food buffets,..

We were extremely impressed with the ship. There was constant cleaning, constant respect. We were very happy.

staff was great, food very good, shows excellent. only problem, nowhere to sit since everyone gets to the pool early to save seats and then they don't even sit there. would prefer more activities not cost extra (i.e. bingo, murder mystery, slide and floats on the island,)

We had a good time but there were so many kids/teens that ran around the ship. The menus in main dining room were okay but not great variety because they want you to pay extra for the "specialty" restaurants. Cagneys Steakhouse was worth the money we paid. Excellent food and excellent service. Our room was kept tidy for us but room steward was not very friendly. The tender process for Great Stirrup Cay was atrocious and absolute chaos. This could prevent me from leaving the ship at hat port in the future. They are working on expanding the island which wll be nice when it is done. Not one of the better private islands. Disembarkation and embarkation was quick and easy. Overall for the money we paid, we had a good time. The Gem is getting run down and they could do a better job keeping the public bathrooms and general public areas clean.

The pool area on the ship were very small and the pools were salt water. The slide was small and not pitched enough to get any speed at all. My 8-year old thought it was 'cheap'. An adult was not able to even slide down the slide....it took alot of effort. I felt like I was always paying for extras.

Our oceanview room was nice. The bathroom was smaller than what we got on the Dawn, but none the less, it was adequate. The staff was great and the director, Jill, was wonderful! We enjoyed the entertainment. We also loved the food at Cagneys, Le Bistro and Tequilas! Those were the specialty restaurants we ate at. The ports were nice and we enjoyed the scenery and relaxation. The plus with going out of NY was saving the money because we didn't have to fly.

It sounds petty perhaps but for someone who doesn't drink booze, but really enjoys his soda, being stuck for 7 days on a ship who has switched to Pepsi was a bit of a shock. I suppose if that's the worst thing I have to complain about, it was a great cruise. From the captain down' the crew were awesome. Food and facilities were great as well. The entertainment was wonderful.
