Review summary

Would not take again. Many much better cruises. Communication was terrible. NCL dropped the ball on this one.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
We were shuffled to a few different lines. We never recieved any info including a ship layout. Just here take your card and go. Poor communication the whole trip.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food in main diningrooms were a little dissappointing. You can tell they are cutting corners. Cagney's, which is usually wonderful was terrible this time. Twice I ordered prime rib and could hardly eat it. Once overdone by a lot and the other night the orime fib was so tough, you could hardly eat it. The buffets were good.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Fitness center was good but way to hot in there to enjoy.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Loung shows were good. Main stage shows not too my liking. Would have liked more variety.

Children's Programs

No children!

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Some were excellent but many had problems communicating and understanding English. Mixed up orders a lot!

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The rooms are showing their age. The bathrooms and closets smelled. The sinks and toilets were scratched and cracked and the toiletseat cover was so yellow and old it was discusting. No chair in room, rust on balconies. The rest of ship was OK. They layout for Cagneys was not great. Walkway to another restaurant, rumbling of engines below you, rattling of dishes continually, not the most enjoyable evening. Teppenyaki was great, Bistro was so-so. The smoke ffom cigar room waifed into the best lounge on ship and ruined alot of seats. Their movie theater was the main lobby so little seating and you had to read subtittles because you couldn't hear. Smoke from casino permiatted the area outside of it. Never had thst on other ships.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Seemed smaller than on other ships. Closet stunk of varnish that permiated my clothes....yuck! The bathroom was gross. Old looking and smelling. The balcony was rusty looking and overall clean but not pleasant.

Ship tip

I don't have any. If returning to this destination I would try a different ship or at least a different room.

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

The excursion was good! We took a zodisc to whale watch. The port was so far from town didnt even go. They should offer a shutttle to town since so far away.

Mazatlan, Mexico

2 out of 5
Ugly port. Should offer a shuttle to old town so you dont have to use crooked taxi drivers. Especially ehen you dont speak Spainish.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

3 out of 5
Did not like our excursion. We did a glass bottom boat whale watch. All they do is race around chasing and scaring the poor whales. There were dozens of boats out there chaotically chasing the few whales we saw. The port was just ok.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
We were told 9:15 but then told to get off at 8:30. When asked they just shrugged and said they were moving quicker. Then we stood in line while others kept being pushed to front of line. When we finally got to customs it was fast.

I went on dawn last may had no problem. I think you're thinking it is a specially cruise. Make the most of it. Stop concentrating on the negative.

I am going on the Gem in August I have cruised its sister ship the Dawn 3 times. What did you not like about the Gem or what are some of your issues. Thanks

We are booked for the Gem in March for 2 weeks. Any specific complaints you could share?
