Just ok.....

Traveled As: Large Group

Room Type: Balcony

Norwegian Gem had an older crowd of people. The décor was first class and the service was great for dinner, room steward and guest services. I did not like that the majority of the shore excursions were sold out before we got on board. Most were sold out before the excursion meeting they held on Sunday. We purchased the specialty restaurant package but all specialty restaurants were sold out on the first day unless you wanted to eat after 9 pm. The specialty restaurants we did eat in were wonderful though. The dinner menu selection was really no selection at all we were not impressed with the menu in Grand Pacific. There were not a lot of selections for both dinner and dessert. We were going to book a Hawaiian cruise but decided to try another cruise line.

Cabin / Stateroom
Room was a little smaller then we were used too, shower was bigger though. We were disappointed that the adjoining balcony to our family could not be opened. We have taken a few Carnival cruises were our balconies could be opened so we could sit out there with our family.
Embarkation and Disembarkation
Getting off the ship was the easiest we have ever seen, not that organized on Carnival.
Ship Quality
The Gem was a beautiful ship.
Destinations and Excursions
LOVED the ports but since the excursions were sold out prior to boarding the excursion we got in Bar Harbor was TERRIBLE!!!!
Service and Staff
Our light bulb burnt out in our bathroom we called they sent someone right away then followed up to see if the work was completed, Excellent service!
Food and Dining
Specialty restaurants were wonderful. Dinner and menu selection in Grand Pacific was just ok

Book excursions and reservations at the specialty restaurants before your cruise. We have never come across this before, on our other cruises we have always booked our excursions on board.
