Great ship; wonderful crew by DianeRug

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We are experienced cruisers (20+) and the Escape is a beautiful ship - and extremely clean. Crew was very friendly and always helpful. Entertainment (especially "O What a Night" and "After Midnight") was fabulous; top notch. Food in dining rooms and cafe was good; food in specialty restaurants was exceptional.

Only drawback -- could use one more pool away from Deck 6 noise for quiet enjoyment.

We will definitely seek to cruise on the Norwegian Escape again.

I just recently returned from... by GulfCoastGirl

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Escape

I just recently returned from my Eastern Caribbean Cruise on the Norwegian Escape Feb 2017. This was my first cruise ever, and I had amazing time. Even though we had to wait about 45 minutes at the terminal, NCL exceeded my expectations from the first moment I stepped on the ship. The staff was very friendly welcoming us to our new home for the next week. The ship is very large, I had to use the self help boards to map things for a while until I was used to them. I enjoyed the atmosphere when we walked around the pool deck that first day with music playing it immediately allowed me to slip into vacation mode even though my cabin was not yet ready. The one negative thing was timing for muster drill, we were told to go down about half hour before and it didn't start on time, so I ended up having to stand around for quite a long time, lesson learned for this first time cruiser. Cabin - mini suite on 10, it was really close to the elevators, which was nice. It was very clean and smelled good, I brought wipes as I have heard horror stories of other people and their horror stories. There is so much storage! I brought large suitcases and they both fit under the bed out of the way, more than enough space for a week's worth of stuff. the bathroom was really nice with the double vanity and shelf to put things, the shower also was plenty large almost the size of a bathtub with a sliding glass door, oh and no discolored grout or grime at all. The bed was delightful, lots of pillows and really heavenly, that can be a deal breaker for me so this was perfect. The balcony was great, it was not the "larger balcony", just standard and had lots of room, two chairs and a small table and still room to stand and enjoy the views and hear the ocean. There is only one outlet so bring a long extension cord. Having a USB charge by the bed is nice, but I would recommend bringing a longer wire to reach the bed as it is located in the light fixture. Oh, and no noise from cabin or hallway either. It's great to have magnetic door to put things on and personalize your cabin. Food - overall good experience, the buffet offers a lot of variety, even for non meat eaters like myself. I enjoyed the fresh squeezed juice (apple celery was great), I wish it was part of Ultimate Beverage Package, that was nice to have in the mornings but I had to pay for it. I was able to have some nice dining experiences with the dining package, Teppanyaki was my favorite, Le Bistro was good food, they even let us take our coffee to go. Cagneys was a challenge for me, I had to make my own vegetarian entree, as it somewhat baffled the staff what to order, so did so by ordering a couple sides, baked potato and steamed veggies. Please be sure to have one entree item for the veggiesaureses as we accompany our meat eater family members too, we want them to enjoy a good steak house. We had reservations at La Cucina one night, but ended up going to the Manhattan room as we did not feel like dressing up to eat I wish that restaurant had a more casual atmosphere too. I loved food Republic and ate there three times, this is a must do. Portions are huge so don't over order, delicious and lots of menu options. The Manhattan Room was fine, it was nice to have a blues band playing, but there was a loud buzz of talking from the volume of people in one huge room that we found it distracting. Dinner was good there the service was great although it takes a while for food to arrive. I also at at Margaritaville for breakfast which was good but the buffet has lots more to offer, you can usually get a seat here easier though. Lunch here was good, you have to pay, but I think it's worth it. I also enjoyed the Wine Lovers The Musical, witty, clever and only a little cheesy. Note for non meat eaters, be sure to tell your server you are vegetarian, the salad had meat and so does the entree. I was able to let them know so they placed a white napkin at my place setting, a no meat salad plus pasta with red sauce was my meal. I appreciate the effort to accommodate my preference. O'Sheehan's, yes!! I loved this option as many nights we found ourselves in need of food late at night or into the early morning! Loved the veggie only fajitas but everyone else enjoyed the wings and burgers to offer, don't ever change! Entertainment- Tyler the cruise director is a gem! Seriously, he did an excellent job, don't let him ever leave! First entertainment was the sail away party, Tyler did a fantastic job getting us excited for our cruise, what a fun way to start the vacation! Through the week we saw him several times and always a fun time, the best was 80's dance party, his get-up was perfect!! Other than that, some of my favorite moments were in the Atrium, level 6 with the comfy chairs and level 7 watching by the rail. Great times, piano music was one of my favorites, it was so relaxing listening to that and having a couple drinks. My tip, be sure to get there early for evening events and plan to stay in your seat if you want to enjoy the game shows or popular events. I still look back and wish I was there enjoying some entertainment, who knew, right? Mark those events of each day and make a point to hit a few, you won't regret it. Dance parties, I was able to enjoy Welcome Aboard, 80's, Glow, they were all a good time, I didn't have a problem but the glow party has huge strobe lights, there was someone who couldn't deal with that and left. It might be advisable to put notices about strobes for those with sensitivities. Anyways, those were all a great fun, and the biggest reason I needed the great O'Sheehan's. Casino, not good odds we spent a lot of time there and money, a month later we didn't even hear from the players club, just strange not even thanks for playing, or anything. Bingo, not worth it, the packages are really expensive, $39 for 3 games and so many people playing so not much of a chance, but the Junior Cruise director did have some funny comments and so that was enjoyable. Thermal suite, I wanted to try it and only used it 3 times through the whole week. This is likely because it was my first time, but I probably wouldn't buy the package again, if anything maybe a day pass for Nassau port. The facility is super nice, so relaxing. They check you in at the main desk and takr your room cards. They have locker rooms with towels and white robes, showers, toilets, hairdryers, and lockers. Once you enter the spa suite, you hear the water from the warm pool. It is loud, but somewhat relaxing. You are at the front of the ship so you can see the ship come into ports and just watch the horizon, it's really amazing. The regular chairs are all padded, comfortable enough to nap on. They also have larger circle chairs with pads and warming stone chairs. The warming chairs are nice on the back, there is a small 'pillow' but I chose to use a towel to put under my head while I read. They offer fruit infused water, hot tea, and oranges which is a nice touch and plenty of extra towels. There are three pool/hottubs I only uses the larger warming tub. The funny thing is this is one of the only places I felt the ship movement, it's a bit funny, you end up moving with the pool which becomes a mini wave pool. Entertaining and fun anyways. The spa rooms, salt, snow, steam, sanarium, and sauna seem nice. I didn't like the sort of sulfur smell in the salt room, although they say it's good for you, also, the snow room was closed one time and the other I peeked in and said no way (I am from Minnesota and we have enough cold, escaped that in February to go to the warm Caribbean). I liked the sauna the best, I grew up with those (Minnesota chills you to the bone otherwise, dontcha know) and that was nice, if you have the spa package don't skip these rooms, it's all a neat experience and added to my vacation. Overall, I give this ship experience 5 stars, I can overlook a few minor things when the remaining moments are a so amazing. Thank you, NCL you made a cruiser out of me. I miss you already and will definitely be back.

This ship has made me... by BrianDancer

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Escape

This ship has made me second guess if any other ship will ever live up to it. it is a very stylish, beautiful ship. The public areas of 6-7-8 and the Lido Deck are well designed and comfortable. The atrium area, along with OSheehans Pub above, offer a great venue for entertainment programming. Its my favorite part of the ship. The casino is huge, with modern machines and many different table games, including 3 card poker, blackjack, roulette, craps, and more. The main theater is comfortable and the sound is really good. The smaller, more intimate Supper Club was also great as was the current show there, Wine Lovers: The Musical. The Waterfront area was a joy to be on, either walking around the deck or relaxing in the cozy seating. The bars were fantastic: Five oclock Somewhere Bar, Tobacco Road, The District Brewhouse, and Howl at the Moon were all excellent. Drink choices were plentiful. The specialty restaurants were all good, with Teppanyaki being my favorite. But I love hibachi, so... Also, the sushi and other options at Pubbelly were AMAZING. Dont miss it. Escape is a great ship. It breaks my heart Im not back on her right now.

Norwegian Escape by snowydog

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My promotion for he cruise was fine dining and beverage package,   It was great, if you drink at all the beverage package is a must

shows where ok,   Two free shows, with something on going on some level every night,  shows could use a little upgrading.  There should be an event every night,

food was great,

drink was good,  unlimited,

room.... cleaned where ever you leave,

all in all a wonderful experience

eXcursions. Better purchase on land. NCL over priced and not the greatest. Nassaua. Beach close by to can walk there,   St Thomas shop right next to the port,  Tortola very small port. Can do anything there by bus

For our first cruise we were completely pleased and decided that we would cruise annually. It took us a few days to realize that we had more dining options than we thought.

Just got back from our... by naynicole18

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Escape

Just got back from our first cruise with NCL. Have cruised twice before with Royal Caribbean (allure and oasis of the seas). First time taking our kids with us (ages 7 & 9). Our kids were never bored. They loved the ropes course and water slides. Food was good, but I felt RC had more options to choose from, even at the buffet. We ate at Margaritaville (costs extra) and the nachos were totally worth it! Also had the ultimate beverage package which was also a big savings. Since our kids are younger, they didn't require us to purchase the bev package for them. We were able to order smoothies and soft drinks for them on our package, which was nice. With the bev package, they let you order two drinks at a time. There was 8 people total in our group so if we needed more than 2 drinks, you just had to give them 2 cards with the bev package on them. One complaint I had was our stateroom was very noisy. We were on the 15th deck (aft balcony) and we would hear a lot of clattering and banging noises above us, even at night. The garden cafe (buffet) was above us so maybe it was their nighttime staff preparing for the next day. Overall, it was a great trip! Would definitely cruise with NCL again. Much cheaper than RC and more kid friendly. Could use a couple more pools as they were very crowded during the day. Lounge chairs were also hard to come by on sea days. Ports were great. Staff was good, although we did encounter a couple grouchy bartenders during the week. Weather was great and seas were pretty smooth. 😎

Amazing ship overall by brockandmary

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The entertainment was amazing, best shows! 22 bars/restaurants..food was a 7. Unless you go a large Carte and pay then it's a 10!  Staff was phenomenal!!!! Rooms, tight, but we're only in to shower, change and sleep. Balcony room...worth it. Elevators were a bit of a pain, but waiting extra min or stopping at ea, floor shouldn't ruin your vacation. We had issue me with noisy inconsiderate young folk partying all night, told security 2 times,  they did move them and comped us an amazing dinner. Always something fun to do, we participated in all games how type things and had a BLAST! Got drink package... totally worth it. Overall the escape was the best I have been on by far, and would go again! Stay away from casino...not worth it.

Great ship, loved the Haven by tjrogers6886449

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was our first cruise on NCL in a long time.  The Haven was absolutely fantastic!  The service and amenities were incredible.  The food overall was just mediocre, and the options for dining without paying upcharges was very limited.  The ship was very nice, but if not in the Haven area, felt very crowded.  I would not have wanted to deal with that pool area and getting a chair every day, it look outrageous!  I would definitely go back on this ship, but would insist on the Haven again.

I absolutely love this ship... by maddog1986

Ship: Norwegian Escape

I absolutely love this ship and the itinerary. There is so much to do. You constantly have so many options; a lot more than I have seen on carnival, rcl, or other Norwegian ships. I love the variety in bars, restaurants, and outdoor seating areas. Also, the drinks package included in the balcony and above is a wonderful deal!

We loved the NCL Breakaway... by Ajose1989

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Escape

We loved the NCL Breakaway so much we had to try the sister ship that was newer and cruising out of Miami. Since we are not locals of Florida; we took the chance to stay a night in South Beach and enjoy the atmosphere and culture. It was a great start to our cruise and I highly recommend it if anyone is flying in from out of state. The check in process was smooth, and we were on the ship pretty early. Everything was familiar as we had been on the Breakaway with a few differences. One difference that stood out to us is the sugarcane mojito bar which was a daily favorite (we had received the unlimited drink package). We also didn't see too many reviews regarding Food Republic; but even though it's a la carte pricing; the food was so good and worth the cheap -in comparison to NYC- price tags. We did get sick on the ship for a day but it passed after 24 hours and were not sure what had caused it as we were sick different days and made sure to stay in our rooms until we were better. However that was 2 separate days one of us was taking care of the other and losing time doing stuff. The ship was lively, but it wasn't as ecstatic and upbeat as the Breakaway. Staff members were still a delight but we did find that there was less things enthusiasm on the ship but tried to check out what interested us (i.e. The karaoke bar which had 9 people including us at peak hour). However we did cruise at the end of January. Nonetheless she's a great ship with great amenities and comfort and again, I can to relax, and enjoy the time off work by being off the grid and giving myself some needed me time. I can't wait for my next cruise!

Got cheated out of 1/3 of the trip by DonConG

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was our first cruise in the Bahamas and was looking forward to Nassau as the highlight of our trip. It was the last stop on the cruise and instead couldn't stop because something was wrong with the ship. They gave us a $50 credit per cabin, which to us was minimal considering we lost 1/3 of our stops. And had the majority of the trip on the sea. We are very upset with Norwegian. While on the cruise, we put money down on future excursions, before the problem came up with the ship, now we are stuck with going with Norwegian for more cruises, since they would not refund the money down either. We did love the ship, food and staff. But think the Norwegian cruise line should of given up more compensation for the loss of the port.

Way more than we expected by luishr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Wife and I decided to try NCL for the first time to celebrate my 60th b'day. Confess we were a little concerned with many of the reviews about being crowded, noisy and even recent bouts of noro-virus. Well, it was a blast!

GOOD:

Embarkation- a breeze, 10 minutes to get onboard.

Debarkation- well organized, a breeze to get out, we were lucky customs was not crowded. 20-25 minutes from ship to pick-up area

Service-excellent, courteous and friendly

Cabin- comfortable and adequate storage space, but for two people. Bathroom was real big and shower awesome

Food- From excellent to good, we had the specialty dining package and all were excellent except Cagney's. Don't go if you have to pay.  Buffet was crowded at times, food not great, but acceptable if you are in between meals

UBP is the best part, no receipts to sign, mostly all is covered and plenty of bars around the ship.

Entertaiment- From excellent to regular, depending on age and tastes.

Beatiful ship, Waterfront is in a class by itself

BAD:

Pool- well, tiny for such a big ship, very crowded and noisy, lots of drunk people. (if you definetely must go, well so be it, but there are plenty of choices and secluded areas with hot tubs to relax and enjoy)

Casino is an open concept, so there's a lot of smokers and it spreads to the whole deck 7, up to 8 and down to 6.

Overall, for us it was a really good experience. Probably will do it again.

We LOVE NCL Escape! by LauraGW

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My husband and I have done 5 NCL cruises including the 3 Breakaway Class ships.  The Escape was our favorite.  We got the ultimate beverage and dining package.  Beverage package is a great deal (Dark and Stormies are now an upcharge which was disappointing).   My husband is a beer drinker so we were very happy with The District Brew House where there was about 75 different beers for him to drink.  We loved Food Republic and Pinchos (Tapas) - we went to bother several times.  I grew up in Spain so I'm a tapa snob, the tapas at Pinchos were very authentic and reasonable prices.  We also had dinner at Cagneys (which we always do!) and Le Bistro.

We were disappointed that Margritaville at Sea is no longer included, the prices were decent but it's the typical stuff you get on land like nachos.  We loved the (free) Cuban restaurant on the Getaway and never tried the spot on the Breakaway which we heard was salads and gourmet burgers?

We are middle aged but still kids at heart so we enjoyed the water slides and ropes course.  The shows were okay - I thought I would love the Brat Pack but I found it rather boring.  I liked After Midnight better.  We did "Wine Lovers, the Musical" on the Breakaway and had a great time - we heard mixed reviews on the Escape about the food.

My husband and I were lucky enough to get  into the Vibe Beach club this trip.  That makes such a difference!  We really got to bond with the staff and fellow passengers.  Worth the extra $$$ for that experience.  Ruby and Remzi were  amazing bar staff!

Based on our great experience with Vibe Beach Club, The District Brew House, Pinchos and Food Republic, we have decided to cruise on the Escape in 2018 to Bermuda!

As far as the ports - they were all pretty dull as we had been to them before.  Naussau was crowded due to 7 ships being in port.  We went to the Baths at Virgin Gorda which was beautiful but way too many people there!
