This was our first cruise. Some people say you either love cruising or you don't, and there's no in between. We did it, and will do one more with our kids, and that's enough for us.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Embarkation was a very orderly people-mover.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Main dining rooms had food that was on par with a cafeteria. Buffet had a large menu with decent food. Cagney's Steakhouse had the best steak I've ever eaten. The ambiance in the specialties was beautiful and upscale, 10/10.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Pools were overcrowded, as to be expected on a ship sailing at capacity.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Malevo was different and interesting, enjoyable. Choir of Man had top talent. The audience-interactive game shows and deck parties were so much fun.
Children's Programs
Did not bring our children. We wanted a vacation.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
All staff throughout the ship were courteous and respectful, constantly cleaning.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Everything was constantly being cleaned.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
King bed, large bathroom with dual sinks and sizeable shower. Plenty of storage. Nice relaxing deck.
Ship tip
Relax and enjoy. Doing all the activities offered will wear you out. .
"Discover Puerta Plata" bus tour.
Strange to see all buildings wrapped in barbed wire. We felt safe as a group, but would not wander alone. Lots of locals trying to hustle their wares, which was intrusive.
Good for you for doing vacation without kiddos. We always took a few days away alone without kids.
I can understand why cruising on a big ship would feel overwhelming if it's your first. We've done smaller ships too like the NCL Spirit...older but sometimes feels more personal with service. How you cruise is up to each individual. There's so much to enjoy or not if you choose.
I don't know your kids' ages, but if you plan to cruise only 1x more, splurge and do a Disney Cruise. There is so much detail put into every experience.
