Review summary

I and the other 10 people in our group would not bother with this cruise again.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
There were no signs or communication on what the "next steps" where. There were plenty of signs for what was going to be served at dinner, but nothing about where to go once my feet were on the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Specialty restaurants were booked up so we could not get into the ones we wanted.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
Pools were good. Not enough entertainment. The popular shows were booked up which prevented us seeing them.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Everything was booked up and could not see what we wanted. My party felt that we always had to pick from the "leftovers".

Children's Programs

My son was in a "in-between" age where activities were too young or too old.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Staff was great, except their English. A lot of communication barriers outside of the bars.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
Hallways are an ADA nightmare. Wheelchairs cannot go down the hallways when the rooms were being cleaned 2-3 times a day. We had to fight moving cleaning carts just to barely make it through.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The ship rocked a lot which caused the hangers to make a lot of noise.

Ship tip

Get all of your reservations set weeks before getting on the ship. All of the special dining and entertainment was all booked up to a point we missed a lot of items that was offered.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

2 out of 5
Parking is a nightmare and expensive.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

1 out of 5
VERY DISAPPOINTED in the port that we went to. The port was 30 minutes by car from the town which prevented us experiencing the culture. We were trapped or had to pay $150 for a round-trip taxi.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

3 out of 5
The island has a lot of trash. Enjoyed walking around the town and going on to the beach.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

1 out of 5
Norwegian changed our port time for 6:00 am to 1:00pm so it was dark for a couple of hours while in port. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas Did not visit port

Seas were too much to use the tender boats. Given $41 refund for our missed port.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
No one to ask questions. All the available staff did not speak English. Had to be guided by other guests. Getting off the ship with an ADA person was another nightmare.

Obviously cruising is not for you, but if it is, maybe do more research before you go. Reservations can be made on app and if you didn't know, that's totally on you. When a ship rocks, hangers will clang, just push them to one side, and problem solved, not sure why you couldn't come up with that on your own. You probably spent a lot of money on your cruise, so instead of complaining about everything, spend that time enjoying the cruise

I loved the Escape, I honestly don’t know how anyone could hate it that much. You can book MDR and speciality dining from 120 days before the cruise. You can also look daily for availability on the app during the cruise in case there’s cancellations, you can book shows on the app too but if fully booked just go along before the show as there’s always free spots 10 mins beforehand due to people not turning up. Just a little bit of time and research from you and you really could have enjoyed this brilliant ship, what a shame

Yes we’ve experienced clanging hangers on all the NCL ships we’ve been on from the natural rocking of the boat, it’s not a hotel in the final analysis! Solution: remove the extra hangers, voila! Who knew?😉

I think this is the first time I have heard someone complain that they clean the cabins too much!!! I also think you need to find another type of vacation, cruising is not for you.

We have done Escape twice , once from Miami and once from NYC and will do it again if itinerary works out. I remember standing on the top of the ropes course and enjoy St. Thomas departure at the sunset. Every ship is unique experience but overall it’s still NCL . Escape holds a very special moments like other NCL ships do. We always bit for Haven and never get it and once we are on the ship we glad we didn’t because it’s plenty to enjoy without Haven. Embarkations are always a challenge but we know that in few hours we will be on the ship and will be on vacation. We don’t expect to be catered to at the ports and therefore we don’t get bent out of shape. It is a process and everyone boarding the ship has to deal with it. Can’t wait to sail on Escape again

The hangers make noise. Did you run out of this to complain about?

I loved the food and entertainment on this ship in the spring of 2019.

Appreciate your feedback. Sorry this cruise didn’t meet your expectations.

Never cruise around the holidays, or when schools are out, for a better experience. When most everything, including the ports, are rated one star, that usually means the problem is with the reviewer, not with that ship for the cruise line.

So you did no research on your cruise before hand so it’s the company’s fault restaurants and entertainment were booked up …. Hangers make noise …:. Now that’s a fist . I don’t think cruising is for you .
