Epic - good itinerary on the Mediterranean by natho17

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

The Garden Café buffet was outstanding, a big highlight. It's a very clean café/buffet place, the food was delicious, the ice cream machine was empty only once (compared to most days on other companies...), the dining room was fantastic too (Manhattan Club). We did not try the fancy $$ eateries. - NCL application doesn't work onboard epic - A/C in unit 8149 not functioning correctly took 4 attempts to get maintenance to replace a broken actuator (day 6!!) which caused the problem, it went from being an oven to a freezer with no middle ground. That put a BIG DAMPER on the enjoyment of our stay... esp. when you do want to spend time in cabin b/c that's where you can find quiet... - one pool area not enough for 4100 passengers - poor access to even / odd rooms (not enough cross passage access) which requires long walks to get to the correct side. - walking / running track is limited compared to many other ships, this one is on lower deck which loops on port side or starboard side (doesn't go around whole ship as is normally the case), the kitchen exhaust side was very unpleasant to walk on! - balcony stateroom was small and cramped and bed length is short even for a person of height 5' 10". - balcony area was quite rusty showing the need for maintenance / painting

Good Med Cruise by ramoncastro

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

For someone that has cruised this same ship 3 times the entertainment hasn't changed, but rather it gets poorer. The first time there was an improv everynight and now there is not. The restaurant (can't remember the name) next to the bowling alley has terrible service and no one cares. The cabin has problems: the toilet would not flush and the shower would not drain. Other than that the cruise was very good. We happened to be on at the time of the world cup and it was pleasent to watch it, and the food there was good.

A week in the Mediterranean by hearttocruise

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Over all, we would give this cruise 4 1/2 stars. It wasn't perfection, but it was better than a lot of our past cruises.

Mediterránean cruise from Rome by ajsmom4407

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Norwegian Epic - The cruise ship was massive .. the first part of our cruise was great .. not many people we didn’t have to wait or fight for pool chairs and the boys got on the water slide and would run and get right back on them again .. no wait .. but in Barcelona a whole new cruise began and everything was reset. Pictures on our account, etc.. we noticed they had a celebration pool side to commemorate the beginning of the cruise .. for those clients (we did not have that). At Barcelona they picked up more people and then the ship was full.. at capacity. A couple people in our group of 25 people were ignored at the pool bar. They served everyone around them even people that walked up after them. This was extremely upsetting. .. we were grateful that we only had to endure that for 2 days (our cruise was almost over) .. Pros to the cruise ship ... tons of entertainment!!! Always something going on!!! lots of bars with live nightly entertainment, lots of places to eat included in the package in addition to the gourmet Restaurants that were extra. They had an over 21 area with bars and tables alone with a pool and pool lounge chairs and large screen (like the one where we watched movies on celebrity) .. they watched the World Cup games there during the Day and movies at night .. They had casino table games and slots and had games (boxes) going for the World Cup games. They had bingo games where you could win $2,000 or a 7 day cruise. Lots for the kids to do by the pool and the kids club was amazing .. the kids did not want to be picked up. They had a game room with tables and board games which our kids enjoyed too. And of course the WiFi cafe with book cases with books to borrow to read during the cruise. The cruise staff were great... minus the bartenders at the oool bar after Barcelona Cons - Food was okay .. not bad but not celebrity food. WiFi that was included was only 250 minutes not unlimited WiFi .. it was horrible .. had to pay for the better WiFi and one day it was totally down. Not like celebrity. We booked a balcony because I these cabins are usually more comfort. Not the case on this shop. The cabins were small for the number of people .. really tight. We had a beverage package but couldn’t get a bottle water or soda. We would get cups .. if we wanted bottled water we had to buy it. We did have water on the juice bar so we refilled our water bottles there.

First Cruise by dejeanettegandy

I really enjoyed my first cruise. The crew was very nice and the ship was very clean. I was not disappointed. My room was nicely decorated and cleaned daily. I loved how the studio fir the singles was setup, with our own little chill area.

Amazing family vacation by ARL2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)

We had a great time overall. The epic is continually dropping / picking up Passengers in Rome/Barcelona so no real excitement onboard day 1.... For new cruisers Embarking on a Europe cruise. Which was unfortunate and surprising to me.

Good times but not fine dining by BryDC

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

This ship was a mix of highs and lows averaging out to a generally enjoyable experience. I would call this ship solidly average. As one of the largest ships traveling in Europe, there were a lot of passengers aboard this ship. This means there were always crowds EVERYWHERE on the ship. On the plus side, there were never those awkward moments where there are only 2-3 people attending a given event. Conversely, food prep in the main dining rooms was disappointing; there were always lines (bars; water slides; most restaurants if you didn't have reservations; entertainment; etc.). Most of the entertainment on the ship was very good or excellent, though there were definitely exceptions. The food was disappointing to say the least--either because they were cooking for so many people or because they were trying to up-sell the premium restaurants. Either way, I will look to smaller ships or better rated cruise lines for future trips as a result. But for an experience that was broadly enjoyable for different age groups and members of my family, this cruise was an enjoyable experience at a fair price.

Great Cruise, Exceptional Shows, Awesome Staff, Slightly Aged Ship by DavidTHouston

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

It was overall a wonderful cruise. The food, even at complimentary dining rooms (Taste, Manhattan) were good and every staff member was attentive, personable and caring. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the headline shows. "Burn the Floor" and "Priscilla" were exceptional and can't be missed; The Beatles show was pretty good too. Embarkation was fairly quick although the lines for people who have checked in their luggage and those who have not were confusing and could be improved (should not be that hard, really.) The ship returned to Barcelona late and disembarkation was delayed for an hour because of late sailing the day before due to a medical emergency. The ship showed its age and for a ship this big, signage and directions were surprisingly inadequate, but overall, not bad. The cabin design was strange (e.g., the sink was in the open area of the cabin and the bathroom was split in two - one for toilet, one for shower - at opposite sides of the cabin door. We booked the excursions (not through Norwegian) for all ports of call and they were great overall. If you travel during peak season, just know that the crowds were massive, especially in Rome and Pisa.

Great experience on Med. cruise by neilred

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

This was our first time sailing with NCL, we were impressed with most of the things that we had to compare to the line that we usually cruise with (red and blue winged ship stacks). Most things were comparable, but the food on our usual line was in our opinion superior. The drink package was one of our free at sea promotions and I would highly recommend the package, even on a port heavy cruise. The only stop that we did not care for was Palma De Mallorca, there was not a lot to do and did not really care for that stop. Other than that we had a great time.

Mediterranean Trip by cherigillespie

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

The Bedbug issue was a big deal. They moved my daughter and her family to a new cabin, sanitized the room and all their belongings. They moved them back into the cabin. But is was three days out of the cruise for turmoil for all of us. They compensated me, because I had paid for all the cabins, $200 and a meal at one of their specialty restaurants. My daughter has come home to an allergic reaction to what ever they treated the room with. More than half the vacation pretty much ruined.

First time on Norwegian by jsugimoto1010

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Took my son to Europe for two weeks as his graduation present. The cruise was half of the trip so we could get to more places. We are also used to cruises so it was the way to go. Cover more ground in a short period of time. Norwegian was fine. I am undecided if I will cruise with them again however. Food was just so-so.

Amazing!! by rlanceland

Please, please, please get better musical talent. There were no acoustic, rock, or country performers. Everything, and I mean everything, was Latin. Please have some diversity and play something without a keyboard and a maraca.

Mediterranean Cruise With Family by RKTinAK

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Our family had a great time. It was the first cruise for our kids so they were thrilled and had nothing to compare it to. The service was adequate, the ship was fun and had a lot of options, but compared to other cruises we have been on, I wasn't as impressed as I had been in the past. I don't know if that's the size and total number of passengers on the ship, the cruise line (this was our first cruise with NCL), or maybe the fact that it might take more to impress me than it did in the past. The wait staff and cabin attendant were fantastic. Overall I'd give the cruise 5 out of 5 stars for our kids, and 4 out of 5 stars for my wife and I. Things were great, but some small things could have been improved that would have been the icing on the cake.

Western Europe by vrojo

Very nice cruise, but very busy if you book a tour at each port of call. Next time I'd take a day off from tours and relax!
