Great itinerary, mediocre ship. For the right price I might do it again.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Norwegian does a good job with the embarkation process. We were early and stood in line until they opened the security check point. Once through security, we waited briefly in line for our boarding documents which took only 5 minutes.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Food aboard the ship was good to very good. The guest cabins (our room was a balcony) were very small. The ship carries too many guests for its services and spaces.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
The activities were plentiful and mostly good.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
The musicians and DJs, in the small venues (bars) were fairly good. However, there was only one dance show and one comedy magic show, but no concert show (cancelled for some reason) in the main theater. Though the dance show and comedy magic show were excellent.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
The service we received was very good, but not very personable. I think they were just too busy and working too hard given the crowds to be personable.
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
The ship overall was very clean. However the cabins were S shaped and much too small. I think this allowed Norwegian to pack the ship with 4100 guests. This led to aggravation in the cabin and overcrowding on the ship.
Cabin / Stateroom
1 out of 5
The S-shaped cabin was way too small. We bickered anytime we were in the cabin because we couldn't get by each other. And we're small and thin people. We avoided the cabin as much as possible. The balcony was nice, but you had to get to it.
The 13th level cabin also vibrated from the ships engines, which was another reason to avoid it.
Ship tip
Be sure to book excursions. The islands it sails to, the ABC islands, St. Lucia and St. Kitts are beautiful. If you're cabin is mid-ship, try to move toward the front or rear of the ship to avoid the engine vibrations.
The disembarkation was smooth and easy with customs using facial recognition as verify identity. We then grabbed a cab, which was much faster and cheaper than the cruise transfer, and were at the airport in no time.
I had no issues on the Epic with the cabin size or shape. I did have a balcony and plenty of room, but my only gripe about the cabin was how the toilet area and shower area were across from each other with privacy glass. Although there is a curtain that can be drawn to separate the area, but if you and a friend or two are in the cabin, it can be a bit awkward if one is showering and one of the others wants to exit cabin, since it would be hard not to notice the person showering even with frosted glass, you can still see a family clear silhouette of the person inside. For some, privacy is more of an issue than others.
