Review summary

First NCL cruise, probably our last. We are big on customer service and the crew is just not friendly. The itinerary made our trip worth it because we could get off every day.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
It was very poorly handled. No fanfare at all. We got on in Rome (which apparently is on the middle of the itinerary) and they did nothing for us. No music, no ballooons, no welcome anything to kick off our start.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
All the food was really good in main dining areas, as well as speciality restaurants.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
There were enough activities everyday on the schedule. We took advantage of the fitness area, thermal suite, teen and kids clubs, and pools as well.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We saw two shows and experienced several bands and djs throughout the trip. All were done very well.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
Our daughter enjoyed going to Splash. She went every evening and stay for late night about 4 times.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
None of the staff (except one lady in the dining area) seemed happy to be there. There was no real engagement with the guests, no smiles, very little effort made to make guests feel like top priority. We had a several encounters of really bad customer service.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Epic definitely has a lot of spaces so it never felt crowded. The layout, though, gives a very compartmentalized feel. No open space except for pool deck area.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
It was a typical balcony cabin. Nothing stood out about it. Good location forward of the ship so convenient to take steps to buffet and pool.

Ship tip

Pick any itinerary that allows you to get off and do things. That saved us from having a bad trip.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

5 out of 5
There are so many things to do and see in Rome. We stayed extra day before and after to experience as much as we could.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

5 out of 5
Florence was great. Train ride took about 1hr and 15 min from port but let’s you off right at center of city. So much to see and do.

Cannes, France

5 out of 5
Cannes was beautiful. Took an outdoor tram around island. Lots off shooing and great for sitting at beach or people watching.

Palma De Mallorca, Balearic Islands

4 out of 5
Palma was okay. Went to Cathedral but it was closed as was palace, so there wasn’t much else to do besides go to beach.

Barcelona, Spain

4 out of 5
Barcelona was cool. Did the on/off bus. It was extremely hot so we didn’t actually get off to see much but some of the areas looked very interesting.

Naples, Italy

5 out of 5
A favorite stop. Did and excursion where we visited Pompeii and did the Mt. Vesuvius climb. The climb was brutal but definitely worth it.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
Standard disembarkation.

Might I recommend Crystal or Regent madam? It's a mere $5,000/person/week.
