Review summary

I loved every minute of it and from the looks on the faces of all on board, so did everyone else. The staff is absolutely fantastic. We chatted with our waitress and she told us some people had been with Norwegian for over 15 years. She had been there four years and was very happy there. When staff is happy, customers are happy, right?

Embarkation

We arrived about 14:30 for 18:00 embarkation & processing was very smoothe with no lines at all.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The buffet was fine for breakfast, but go ahead and opt for the fancier included restaurants for dinner. Taste is one. You won't be disappointed. If you can get a table near a window onto the sea, even better. There were so many options for appetizers, entrees and desserts that it was hard to decide. Sometimes we just had to order 2 apps and/or 2 desserts. The Hake fish was my favorite entree. There was only one entree that was not cooked to my liking (leg of lamb) and the wait staff fell over themselves trying to bring me something else, which I refused because I was plenty full. Overall, food is great. Wait staff is awesome.

Ship tip

Don't expect to watch any familiar tv shows. Don't stay in cabin except to sleep. 3 in a cabin worked well for 3 women, especially since we didn't spend much time in the cabin anyway.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

It was terribly windy & rather chilly that last week of May. We arrived a day ahead and were able to visit Sagrada Familia and an off the beaten track tapas bar - Renoi, which was quite enjoyable. We were distracted by trying to retrieve my IPhone which I lost at the airport on arrival, so missed Las Ramblas & I'm sure many other things. I did get my phone back with over-and-above service by concierge at Hotel Arts, though.

Naples, Italy

We lucked out with a taxi driver named Niccola who drove us around for a couple of hours, showing us the sites and stopping to take pix. I wish I had gotten his card. He was a lot of fun, playing Italian music & being chatty. Our only goal for Naples had been to try the pizza. We did & it was the best ever & within walking distance of port. It was a fun visit.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

We had pre-arranged highlights of Rome & Vatican/Sistine Chapel tour with Brahim (co-owner of Elegantaxi - can be found on Trip Advisor) & were not disappointed. If you want to have lunch near the Vatican before or after your visit there, Aldo's has the best lasagna I have ever tasted, good wine & fair prices. Brahim was an interesting and informative & fun tour guide. Highly recommend.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

Pre-arranged tour with Walter Occhini (Trip Advisor) in which we skipped Florence & Pisa and went to Volterra, San Gimignano & Fattorio San Donato for a "light lunch." Walter is fun to deal with in emails leading up to tour day & even more fun when we got there. We had a great time on excursion from this port.

Cannes, France

We had a leisurely time in Cannes and it was my birthday. I had been winning in the ship casino, so we walked over to the Cannes Casino (lovely 5 or 6 block walk) & sure enough I came out 76 Euro ahead there. We took the little train ride and got the lay of the land. We had lattes at one place and lunch at another. Lunch was a burger at a pub across from the carousel. Best burger ever, especially the bread which was to die for. French bread, fresh made daily. We only spent about 4 hours in Cannes & didn't go on any planned excursions but it was still enjoyable, very clean city with tons of yachts & shopping.

Palma De Mallorca, Balearic Islands

I love to go to the beach on vacation and this was really the only port that had a nice beach (Playa Major or something like that) that was a cheap taxi ride away from the port. It was a beautiful, sunny day and a perfect way to spend our last day just lolling on the free public beach with free citywide Wifi!

Really helpful review, thank you. I think I will try using taxi more with Trip Advisor thrown in. The foodie tips are much appreciated.
