Review summary

Being a proponent of less populated cruises, I was pleasantly surprised. The only negative, while it really didn't impact us, was the limited number of deck chairs around the pool and the lack of umbrellas for shade. We found deck chairs removed from the pool area, up against a wall of the ship in the blazing sun. We lasted about 45 minutes and returned to our own balcony.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We were pleasantly surprised with the abundance of storage space in our cabin. As a designer myself, I am keenly aware of these things.

Ship tip

This was my first cruise on such a large vessel. I was pleasantly surprised that the number of passengers didn't impact my enjoyment of the cruise. (except for the day at sea when every passenger was visible at one time either in the atrium or the restaurant) The availability of table in the buffet restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner was an issue.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

4 out of 5
Charming port city where we booked a Bed and Breakfast the night before sailing. We were delighted with the town and the people.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

4 out of 5
There was really not enough time for us to get to Florence for a worthwhile visit to this beautiful city. As my husband and I had been there before, we chose to stay in Livorno for the day. It was unremarkable.

Cannes, France

3 out of 5
Again, the time limitation to visit the areas outside of Cannes itself was so limited, we chose to take a quick walk along LeCroisette and return to the ship.

Palma De Mallorca, Balearic Islands

5 out of 5
We took advantage of a local taxi driver who agreed to show us around and it was a great decision. We visited a charming town, saw sights of local interest and shopped in an old medieval village.

Barcelona, Spain

2 out of 5
Because this cruise stop was only three days after the awful terrorist attack on LaRamblas in Barcelona, we were hesitant to get off the ship. The one sight we looked forward to sharing with our granddaughter, who was with us, was the Sagrada Famillia Church. When we got there we discovered that the church was closed to visitors as there was a private and diplomatic presence at the sight to remember the victims of the recent attack. It would have been helpful if the cruise line personel (cruise director) would have let everyone know this before we left the ship and paid a taxi to take us there.

Naples, Italy

4 out of 5
Naples, Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast, Positano couldn't be more picturesque. Again, we toured on our own and enjoyed the experience immensely.

Disembarkation

The self disembarkation process was appreciated.

Nice you had the sanctuary of your own balcony. #1 reason why we also do balconies
