Review summary

Only place with slow service was The Local at shift changes. The food was really good. Even when supposedly crowded, there was always room at the pool. The live music was phenomenal all over the ship in different venues. Choir of Man and Beatles show were great.

Food and Dining

Los Lobos

5 out of 5

A hidden secret that never seems to be full. The carne asada is delicious. Service was over the top good.

The Local

4 out of 5

The service was consistently bad at different times. They would forget to refill drinks, bring condiments well after you were done eating, etc. The high top chairs are also very difficult to get in and out of, almost comically so. It’s a sport watching people struggle to get in/out of chairs. The food is FANTASTIC! Great bar food.

Q Texas Smokehouse

3 out of 5

Just very mediocre experience. Not bad, not great. Brisket was either fatty or tough. Corn bread was very good.

Le Bistro French Restaurant

5 out of 5

Best restaurant on the ship.

Cagney's Steakhouse

5 out of 5

Great service. Meats are actually grilled with real fire.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Always something going on. If you’re bored, it’s your fault. Pool was crowded, which is always the case on a packed sailing with lots of young people, but never had an issue getting in the pool.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Guns n Rojas live band phenomenal, probably the best at sea. Don’t miss Choir of Man. Beatles show really excellent, even if you’re not a fan. You’ll know most of the songs.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Staff friendly, especially when you were polite to them. Only slow/indifferent service was at The Local. MDR’s very busy, but found middle management facilitating and helping out like they should.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Was on deck 8 starboard side forward cabin. This hallway is a path for access to the crew outdoor lounge, and traffic was very heavy because this was the first Caribbean sailing where they were able to actually be outside after 6 months in Alaska. This is a major design issue, as they kept slamming the door and cigarette smoke smell wafted into cabin and hallway.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Bad location in hallway on deck 8 starboard used by crew to access their outdoor lounge. Was in same hallway in Alaska and totally different experience because lounge not open in cold climate. Also noise from theater below and during port arrival/docking. Won’t choose this location again.

Ship tip

Look at the Freestyle Daily and plan out your day.

Ports of call

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Taino Bay has nice pool area, but the lazy river water is cloudy (not like a chlorinated pool). Pier shared with commercial ships unloading cargo all day with endless trucks and noise. Smell of garbage in the air. I recommend an excursion away from port area.

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

5 out of 5
Enjoyed a private Villa in Silver Cove. A wonderful day with attentive service in an uncrowded place.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Spend the money and get a private boat charter. The most beautiful place in the Caribbean.

Disembarkation

Did self assisted disembarkation. Walked out of room at 7:30 and in my car by 8:10.
