Caribbean Cruise 2023 by opie03

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway

Norwegian was not fully staffed for this cruise, bartenders over worked and wait times really long everywhere. Bars not stocked with enough product to serve the amount of passengers. Staff did a great job trying to accommodate passengers but needed more staffing to handle the amount of people.

Our 2nd Cruise in 4 Months to Bermuda on NCL by kruisebig30

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

We had the best Anniversary/Birthday cruise in June/July 2015 to Bermuda on The Dawn and we had to return for another amazing cruise to Bermuda for my Birthday. The Breakaway is a MUST for anyone who enjoys cruising, meeting awesome crew who treats everyone like a royal, delicious food in so many places to have a meal and great entertainment. From the time we boarded to the time we had to leave everything was perfect and can't wait to cruise again. Of course, we put a deposit down on two more cruises and hope to have the same outstanding crew again. The most important lesson in life is where ever you go, who ever you deal with, remember treat with respect and you receive it back. We had a blast making the crew smile, taking selfies with them and treating them with the respect they so deserve. NCL is great and our travel agent, Linda with BJ's Travel is the BEST.

Okay, but too many pay options by MBCKCannon

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

I posted this review on a few sites I am on: Did the Easy Walk Off for the first time and think I'll do it every time from now on! Got to the line of people waiting for the okay to leave at 0710. We were in walking past the luggage being lined up and heading for a taxi at 0732. At least the NY customs building stair nazi wasn't at the post this time, she would let only one person go down th escalator at one time last year. Created a huge logjam. This time, a different lady allowed about 10 feet between people. Okay, the cruise: 1. Tops down, the best entertainment I've seen in my whole 5 cruises (1 RC, 3 NCL, 1 Carnival). The Cirque starts hokey, but that is just the support crew. It was amazing. Food, not so much. Dark in the venue and hard to cut/eat and watch the act at the same time. Rock of ages was awesome! So much talent! Not exactly like the movie, but great! Burn the Floor was also amazing, the dancing and singing was excellent! The magician act (Michael Finney) was great as well. As for the ship's movement...hardly felt anything until the last two days, but we hit the swells coming from the storm that hit the east on Wednesday. I like the movement. We had a normal balcony stateroom with 2 twins and a couch. With the twin set-up it was difficult to get around the beds. Rooms are smaller than what we had on the Gem, which was the same type of room. Shower water pressure SUCKED, no other way to put it. It was difficult to get cold water once people started taking showers, in fact, the water was painfully hot. Sometimes the toilet wouldn't flush, had to reseat the lid or pound on the knobby (wall protector) on the wall behind the seat. That was the room. For the cruise, there are far too many pay only options. Ultimate dining pkg gives one a specialty restaurant each night with the cirque show on night one included, cost is $119. Does NOT include Ocean's ($49) or the ala carte Raw Bar or Noodle/sushi bar. The gelato, Cake Boss, and cappaccino is also pricey. Drinks, of course, cost. I do like the soda package at around $50. You get a cup to haul around for refills or just get a glass filled at any bar AND any restaurant. It is fountain, not out of a can, and bar staff are nice about it (that lacking was my pet peeve about Carnival). My biggest issue was with the Mandara Spa pass I had been so excited to get. Unlike the Gem, which was $99 and had a womens, mens, and co-ed spa with all of them including jacuzzi's, wet and dry saunas, showers, as well as both cushioned and warmed ceramic lounge chairs. They also only sold around 100 passes. Breakaway had a small co-ed location with one large jacuzzi, four different saunas, rain showers (that some were not working correctly), 10 ceramic chairs and maybe 30 cushioned chairs and they sold 120 passes that cost $199. On sea days, it was impossible to get a lounge chair. I will be critiquing NCL on that one. I was told they made it smaller to accommodate more rooms, probably the Spa Haven suites. They wouldn't get seats either. I found out there is a top deck pool area for adults only called Vibe. At least a hot tub and some chairs, but no way to see in there. No idea the cost and they sold out of passes. However, the water slides were the bomb!!!!! Note (since there wasn't a sign) NO jewelry allowed, to include wedding rings. The ropes course was also a total blast!!!! My fat butt fit both of those fun things!! Buffet was pretty good. Cagney's was awesome, Teppanyaki pretty good, and Moderno's okay (a bit to odd for me, but the salad was great). Pizza 24/7 was good, but at a cost of $5 and delivered anywhere. The casino is mid-ship, located around the multi-deck stairways (where photos are taken). Meaning, the smoke wasn't as bad as being confine in a closed room HOWEVER, you could smell smoke downstairs in Le Bistro (a specialty restaurant). The internet area was open and next to the atrium so people would sit there when they were out of seats if something was on the screen or an activity was going on. Stupid. The "stores" were kind of open as well which made it a bit chaotic as it is a major walk way. It incorporated the photo area. I did like the binder system for photos. MUCH easier to find your photo. Don't know how someone got away with the designs. Would I take the Breakaway or equivalent again? ONLY if I got a deal I couldn't pass up. Bear in mind, I don't complain about everything, but I expected more and won't blow sunshine up to gloss things over! I'll stick to the Gem/Jade. This one was too big and too many extra costs.

Great welcome back to cruising by RobChanNCL50

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Great cruise, spoiled with a 40% capacity cruise. Norwegian as a company needs to do better by their staff and match the great service that the front line service staff provide. The guest services on board and pre cruise are horrendous but I have never been treated better on cruise ship by everyone else like we were on the Breakaway. We are giving it another try in September, because of the staff and the ship!

A wonderful cruise itinerary! Bermudians are courteous and very happy to see visitors again. Worth the extra steps (covid testing, etc) required for visit!

1st Cruise Experience by AshnBe83

Overall I had the best time! Mostly I wanted to relax and get away from reality for just a little while and experience different countries. I would tell anyone who is hesitant about cruising to go for it.

Great Breakaway Cruise by margie1029

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Was on Breakaway Oct. 26, 2014 had a great time. This was my second time on Breakaway, I participated in the meet and greet, slot pull, saw burn the floor, Rock of Ages great shows. spent time at the Spa (my favorite place).

Celebrated my birthday and Halloween during this cruise it was fantastic!

The food was good, just think they should change the menu more often at Manhattan, Savor and Taste went to all restaurants and had about same menu. Other than that it was the perfect cruise.

Can't wait to go again. Great job NCl

1st cruise ever - up and downs but overall great experience ! by MC06220

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway

So it was our 1st cruise so I cannot compare, but overall we had a really good time onboard. Staff is really nice, food is OK, entertainments are good. I already miss our "apero" moment every evening on the Waterfront, such a nice place! Too bad the management took 5 days to solve our issue with our cabin...

mixed feelings by suebe

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway

Beautiful family vacation we saw lots of wonderful sights. Evenings on the ship are a bit boring unless you drink a lot. Food was okay but nothing spectacular. I would visit these ports again but in a different ship. I was not impressed with the breakaway.

It was a great cruise. NCL had a really fun Halloween sail away party and costume party. I can't wait to take an NCL cruise to Bermuda again.

Excited to be back Cruising by 409electricgirl

It was very exciting to be back cruising. We really enjoyed and felt safe with this being a fully vaccinated cruise and the testing prior to sailing. It was great feeling normal for a week!

Not the best, but we had fun by kip213

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway

This cruise was definitely not my favorite. We had really bad weather for the first 3 days, wind and big swells. Meant you couldn't really go outside so you had to stay inside and explore. We missed Great Stirrup Cay because it was unsafe for the tenders. We also had Vibe passes but were not able to use it at the beginning because it was closed due to the weather. All of that is beyond Norwegian's control and we knew that. Once the weather cleared up, we did enjoy ourselves more. Tendering process for both Grand Cayman and Cozumel was pretty dreadful. Very slow and unorganized. Partly Norwegian, partly the port of Cozumel. Due to COVID-19 there were healthy practices in place throughout the ship, like no self serve in the buffet, but none of it bothered us or took away from the cruise. Overall, we made the best of our trip, enjoyed lots of competitive games of darts, drinks, food and would recommend the ship and itinerary to anyone.

Great ship and staff. Food was excellent. Cabin could not have been better. Weather was really bad, but still had a great time. by jltanner56

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Our cruise was excellent. Our room, the Owners Suite was perfect. Our Butler, Choi, and Room Stewardess Maria were outstanding. The weather was poor, but we still enjoyed the cruise. Food could not have been better. Our favorite entertainment was Melvin Henry. Cannot wait to hear him again on our cruise 1/5/18. We love the Breakaway.

Awesome Bermuda Cruise by CJpurple

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Overall, we enjoyed our cruise. The food was top notch, the stateroom very comfortable, the staff attentive despite how overworked they are. We had no trouble finding something to do. We really like Bermuda and being able to drive to the ship instead of flying makes a big difference. I would cruise with Norwegian again, but on a smaller ship.
