Review summary

Overall, we enjoyed our cruise. The food was top notch, the stateroom very comfortable, the staff attentive despite how overworked they are. We had no trouble finding something to do. We really like Bermuda and being able to drive to the ship instead of flying makes a big difference. I would cruise with Norwegian again, but on a smaller ship.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Embarking was pretty simple. We drove so we parked right at the pier in Manhattan. Honestly people for the few $$ it's worth the luxury of getting into your car upon return and driving off while so many are phoning, searching and waiting for cabs etc. to pick them up and take them to their vehicles.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We did not go to the specialty restaurants. The food in all the included venues was very good so we didn't feel the need or want to spend the added $$.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We did not do many of the activities. We did enjoy the Thomas Kinkade Art, the learn to dance sessions with the professional dancers was fun and due to the cloudy sea day, we watched the chef carve fruit into animals. There was always something going on that you could sit through. We were there to relax. That said it was extremely difficult to find a quieter spot to lounge on the ship. our first sea day was spent entirely looking for a lounge chair. Very busy and people hog lounges and never use them.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The entertainment that we did watch was very good. The down side was having to reserve the show and there were not a variety of shows offered each night in the theatre as we are accustomed. There were evenings where we ended up watching the kids movie on the outdoor screen as there wasn't a theatre show available. Second City was second class on this ship. We've enjoyed better on the Norwegian Dawn. The one Broadway show we did not go to for the sole reason of the sexuality and foul language. This is a cruise ship with many families, it limits what you can see when shows contain inappropriate content. The magician on Saturday night was fabulous, He was the kind of entertainment we expect. Full of fun and laughter and excellent talent.

Children's Programs

did not have kids with us

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
We felt sorry for the servers on this ship. They were run off their feet and there were a few times where the manager ended up serving our table as the server assigned to us was so busy, they did not have time to tend to us. Little things went missing or forgotten due the same problem. It was not the servers fault, you could see they were working very hard and doing their best to accommodate the masses. We never saw our room steward at all the entire week of the cruise. Bar tenders were good and managed those who attempted to butt in front. The spa staff I think were the most underutilized. They were often found at the top of the stair ways offering something to get you to sign up for a treatment. Too costly.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship itself was spotless. Often you would see someone polishing the glass and the handrails. it's the cruisers who are careless that make the ship messy. It's not that difficult to put something into the garbage rather than risk it blowing away.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our cabin was spacious and comfortable. We had no issues with any workings within it. Being at the front of the ship we were concerned of experiencing more motion, but we felt nothing more than if we were at the back of the ship. The balcony was lovely to have while docked in Bermuda and especially on those very busy at sea days.

Ship tip

If you like large ships, don't mind a very crowded pool area, limited theatre evening entertainment, you'll be fine on this ship.

Ports of call

New York, New York

5 out of 5
Surprisingly this was an easy port to get to. Do your homework prior to going to familiarize yourself with the area around the port and you will be fine. there is a huge aircraft carrier ship museum at the pier which would be an interesting excursion to do if time allows. Parking at the pier, although a little costly, it was worth it and simple, people attentive and actually nice.

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

5 out of 5
Bermuda is "Bermudaful" Love this island. Keep in mind if you are there during the last weekend in July OR the first weekend in August, you risk being there during the island cricket match between St. George and Summerset. The island shuts down for two days with the exception of the Royal Darkyard. Hamilton and St. George will be a ghost town as everyone camps and parties all over the island. the beaches are beautiful, the people are very friendly and helpful. Take the city bus without hesitation and the ferry to St. George or Hamilton. I would not recommend renting a scooter, it's not the safest thing to do, but if you want the experience, it's readily available from the dock yard. A lot of the excursions leave right from the dockyard so it's easy to book something.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Easy to walk off with your luggage and straight to our car. If you are walking off unassisted with your luggage, make sure you pick up your disembarkation tags the night before so you get the time slot you desire.
