Great entertainment/ First Rate Captain by janiceblueskies

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The entertainment on this ship was first rate.  I particularly enjoyed Rosie who is a part of Fire and Ice group that performed just about every day.   The Captain of this ship did a phenomenai job of steering this vessel during the rough seas and during a necessary medical evacuation.

Breakaway by pama63

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

This was our first Norwegian. There were 8 of us and we were very impressed. We usually cruise on Royal. I do have to say their staff is a tad more friendly. We all thought the food was great, the shows were good. Loved the glow & 80's parties. I thought they did fireworks (which I've read about). We have gone out of New Jersey twice and preferred New York. Getting off was so fast that we were able to jump on an earlier bus to Boston. We would do this ship again (maybe even next year). The boys loved the slides and ropes course but, were bummed they didn't get to walk the plank. They all hit the Bliss every night. # of us went in the ice bar which was pretty cool but, it was a little costly.

Great ship by alioop

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

My husband and I cruised from New York to Bermuda October 4, even with hurricane Joaquin looming, we were determined to have a great time ...and we did !! We left at 2am instead of 4 pm to avoid the hurricane that was currently passing by Bermuda . We enjoyed the ship & got acquainted with it while still in New York & never felt cheated that we didn't leave on time. The ship is beautiful. Food was awesome, and I know good food. Is it the Ritz..? No, but close enough. After months of planning and many reviews read about this ship, I can honestly say ppl just love to complain ! If you are thinking about taking the breakaway from New York do not hesitate !!! We had an aft balcony on deck 9 , smack in the middle & heard no noise from restaurant below & no noise from above. Lovely room & balcony, clean & spacious..9922.

Norwegin Breakaway by 1stcruiseonBrre

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The cruise ship was newer but lacked important amenities such as a dresser to store clothing. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. The onboard entertainment in the theater Rock of Ages needs beefing up. The singing was offbeat, and the themes were average and not a good fit for the audience. Burn the Floor was fabulous but had only one routine all week.

Eventful trip by dpass249

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Trip was great, very restful, but eventful.  Staff was excellent, they saw to all our needs in a very courteous and pleasant manner.  Spa was the highlight of trip, enjoyed the steam room and other amenities.  Rock of Ages was great, loved seeing a "Broadway" show on ship.

READY TO DO THIS AGAIN!!! by sbrougfam1074

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

NCL BREAKAWAY is the best value on the seas. This cruise was sold out prior to sail date, so we were glad that we chose a Balcony Cabin, since there would not have been any to upgrade to. The same was true last year this time when we sailed to the Bahamas aboard this ship. It was worth a repeat journey.

This category stateroom has adequate space, plenty of storage, an inroom safe for valuables, sleeps 4 or 2 twins can be combined to make a king sized bed, but the balcony is small - just enough space to have a drink while watching the horizon, sunrise or sunset - weather permitting of course. Check the NCL website for more details.

This voyage encountered a Nor'easter when embarking, the Captain decided to delay it until 2a.m. Excellent call on his part. This detoured our course which also enabled us to avoid the roughest part of Hurricane Joaquin, which minimized the occurance of seasickness. Additionally, a passenger became seriously ill and we incurred another delay to detour back toward the USA to enable US Coast Guard helicopter to airlift that passenger. I appreciated that the Captain would inform all on board via the PA system as to the adjustments in course that were necessary. Due to those changes we had to rely on the Cruise Director and staff for entertainment. We were not disappointed. If you haven't cruised in awhile expect to pay for specialty offerings and restaurants. It is only fair to expect to pay for the services you chose to enjoy and not expect that it be included in the fares of the guest who chose not to participate. In reality, the complimentary activities and restaurants are very well done. If you want something additional expect to pay for it. I will not complain about the size of the adult pool since, I was aware of it from our prior cruise. This ship is only two years old and this our second cruise aboard her.

We chose to purchase the Ultimate Dining Package [specialty restaurants] for 6 nights and the Unlimited Beverage Package. Which means that as soon as we boarded the ship, we put a drink in our hands without being charged to our onboard account - good news for our wallet. Also, we then went to make reservations at the Specialty Restaurants, since this cruise was sold out. The complimentary restaurants were very good for breakfast and lunch, our favorites were SAVOR and TASTE for wait staff dining. The GARDEN Buffet was more than adequate for the times when we missed the aforementioned restaurants.

The Cruise Director and staff were very friendly during events that they presented and when we encountered them elsewhere during the cruise. The Cruise Director even remembered to call my husband by name. If you chose not to attend any of these events, there are CCTV versions to watch on the TV in our room. There could have been more updated selections for TV viewing but with so much to do and see on this ship, we really cares. I observed that most activities and events are handicap accessible.

Thank goodness the Hurricane didn't do any irrepairable damage to the island of Bermuda and its inhabitants. The excursions went on rain or shine, which makes sense - when rainy every activity is a water activity. The passengers that paid for excursions that were missed due to the previously mentioned adjustments in travel were refunded their monies when they went to Guest Services and presented their proof of purchase vouchers that awaited them in their staterooms.

All in all, It was a good time.

Great Ship by pjineson

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Great cruise and great ship.  There is tons to do and it is great for families.  My only negative comments are that the shore excursions are to expensive.  You can get the same ones at almost half the price right on the pier next to the boat.  Also, with kids it would be nice to have the ability to do some laundry rather than pay them a fortune.

NCL CREW ARE SUPER! by xiaoliqiaoli

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

I am so lucky to choose NCL Breakaway as my debut sea voyage. At first,i was concerned about the weather condition due to "hurricane Joaquin". However, I feel relief when I received letter regarding to altering our sailing time from Captain Hakan Svedung. Safety is priority. Captain and his team believes in this as all the guests on board. Secondly,the food is so delicious and the hygienic standard is high. I noticed one of the chef tasted the soup by using a disposal spoon and then discarded right away. all the waiters in the cafe work around the clock. Lat but not least,the entertainment team! They are marvelous! They are full of energy and passion. Mr.Silas Cook, Scott, Anthony...... I cannot name them all but their face and smile are still in my mind and warm my heart. I regard them the best Ambassador for American culture! Thank you NCL!

Bermuda breakaway by altkds

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Pro's first  ship was newer, facilities were very nice and clean ,entertainment was very good , both theater and club , complimentary dining rooms were nice, stateroom was clean and well appointed, waterfront area was very nice.                      Cons,  pool areas a joke, way too undersized for a large ship, h2o area for deck parties very undersized as were all public areas , no flow at all to ship all your public areas are spread out.  No steam or sauna rooms , ($199.00) fee for sauna or steam ,,, restaurant service very slow , personal were great but food took for ever to come from kitchen, we made reservations at comedy club only to find four of us could not sit together so we left...we waited 40 mins for a burger at the uptown grill to get them served ice cold .. We tried it again later in the cruise with no wait and cold again....

WAY too crowded (and I am a seasoned cruiser) by Chelsea8989

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The boat was nice and clean, the service was hit or miss, but the main drawback was the CROWDING! Over 4,000 people onboard, I found myself fighting for a lounge chair on the deck, unable to get in the pool (more like a large bath), and without a towel most days (somehow they still haven't calculated how many towels are needed bc the towel stand was always out of towels when I would stop by). Angry

If you're going to cruise, spend the extra money and do Disney. Far less crowded, less "nickel-and-dimed" feeling since more things are included (soda, more shows at night, better food w/o upcharge, etc.)

Bermuda scenes by charms

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Varied restaurants & well planned activities to satisfy guests. Cordial and professional crew. Amenities to satisfy all needs. The entertainment was top notch and we were pleased with the show Rock of Ages which we had planned on seeing in New York.

Great Ship

Amazing Staff

Fun things to do on ship

FreeStyle Restaurants could be a little better variety and quality of food

A lot of the restaurants offered the same food just different atmosphere.

NCL Breakaway by rkicinski2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

First let me give a rave review to the Captain and crew for keeping us in calm waters during a tropical storm/hurricane for 98% of the trip.  His expertise in keeping us in calm waters was unbelievable. The ship was beautiful and the staff that we met were friendly. The US officer who arranged for the veterans get together, champagne and photo should be mentioned because every veteran who participated thought it was an amazing gathering.  Thank you for that.   I was disappointed int he menu choices as I usually cannot make up my mind,  Lobster night in the main dining room has been discontinued, so if you want lobster, you have to go to the specialty restaurants.  Also, we never saw our room steward until Wednesday.  We had no bathrobes in the room until I called and requested them and then, they had no belts.  Sad This indicates to me that the staff has been reduced.  Usually I saw my room steward every day. Also, there used to be a menu left in the room for room service/breakfast and we did that every day, however there was no menu and a $7.95 charge for room service.  I am not sure if we were entitled to the minibar with our beverage package, but the footstool had the minibar bottles in it until the last night of our cruise when the bottles went into the fridge.  Not sure what that was about.    I just feel like the customer service factor has dropped a bit since the last cruise.  We are Gold latitude members who traveled with others who were not.  We are supposed to have priority check in, but our companions were done before us.  Also did not have Priority disembarkation.  .

Very nice ship, with poor customer service. by ArielPod

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The ship is beatifull. The itinerary is also nice .

However NCL has a problem wiht his customer service. Every question you ask, they must check with head office and this take one or tw odays to be solved.

Other than that , food is good , but the service on the dining room is poor.

Entertainment was nice , and Rock of Ages it's a great show.

On the way back to New York, we had very rough seas , but crew handled it very well and life on board was almost normal.

Not so good 2nd time around by dan346

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

We took this same cruise on the same ship last year.  Last year we took the dinner package, this year the drink package.  The ship and it's accommodations are good. Lacking in pool area for adults, great for kids.  Specialty restaurants are average at best and not worth the extra money.  Food in regular restaurants average as well. Entertainment compared to last year was way down.  Very good last year, very bad this year.  Quality of shows, musicians, singers, dancers, comedy not even close to previous year.  Very disappointing.  If this was your first cruise, you probably wouldn't notice the difference. The best entertainment was watching the bartending staff make drinks outside the Taste Restaurant.

Breakaway to Bermuda, September 27, 2015 by kejacobs

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

We had a wonderful cruise.  Loved the ship, Breakaway, and all the entertainment. The Food was excellent.  Our BJ's Travel Agent. JOMARI VALDERROSA,  was great to work with.  He did a fantastic job, as we didn't book until August, 2015.  Also, JOMARI, always kept up informed, and called with reminders.  I have recommended him to others.

Service is Extremely Lacking by Milesmomma

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Overall, the cruise was good, but the Staff lacks personality, language skills, and customer service.  Restaurant hostess were generally unpleasant, wait staff takes your order and runs, our housekeeper was terrible and didn't understand our requests.  Would take our towels and not replace with the correct quantity.  He never took away or changed our dirty glasses, didn't vacuum or change the sheets - even after we requested since we were staying with a baby.

I felt like I was treated like a number, no personal service at all.  The staff appeared jaded and bored or completely overwhelmed and are quick to rush you along...on to the next.
