Awful ship by jldelgreco

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This ship is understaffed. Horrible food. No signs for gluten free. They had options but it took extra 20 minutes to get them. Staff was not knowledgeable of what items were gluten free. Main pool is about only. Rude service. Uncomfortable seats in theater which was small. I have done 3 Norwegian Cruises and will never again. Carnival is better.

Norwegian Cruise line must do better! by johnson12388

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I've been on the breakaway 4 times and this was the most disappointing cruise I've took in years. Myself and Husband cruise every  3months we went on the breakaway December 2015 it was great food ,entertainment , people, the ports fast forward November 2016 the worst cruise ever food was cold in most cases daily menu basically the same room services saved us, no comedy show ,  boring Club, bahamas was okay because we stayed over night was able to enjoy the island. I wouldn't take the breakaway again.

DON'T CRUISE DURING NEW JERSEY WEEK IF YOU DON'T HAVE KIDS by deckerbr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Apparently New Jersey Schools were closed the week that I had cruised. There were 1800 kids on board the ship and they were rude and inconsiderate. They were running around everywhere and had no manners towards any adults. The kids splash area was closed most of the cruise. The plank on the ropes course was also closed all week and was ridiculous, the main attractions and they were closed. The only really good food that you could eat, you had to pay for extra. It was just a nasty experience, mainly due to the volume of kids and their manners.

Not much to do but Drink by christine87765

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I'm very happy I paid for the UBP to allow me to drink all day long, pretty much every day of the trip.  Compared to other cruise lines I have sailed on (Royal Caribbean, Carnival) Norwegian did not offer much of anything.  That is, anything complimentary.  The comedy club was one of the few free things to do, and every single night was booked immediately.  We paid $20/person plus 18% gratuity for their "ice bar" that was more of a meat locker.  Very small space with two 'complementary drinks' that I left behind because they were outrageously disgusting.  Like I said, thank God for the beverage package or I wouldn't have been even more miserable.  I sat at the bar the entire trip.

Food: Also nothing to rave about.  You shouldn't expect anything crazy at the Wind Jammer (as we call it from our RC cruising) - however the sit down meals were just about the same every evening.  We are used to a much higher standard of cruising and I got sick of the meals very quickly.

The BREAKAWAY Experience by swemco

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The room was small compared with other cruise ships I have been on.

There was a pair of sneakers under the bed from we arrived until we left.

The food was good & the special restaurants were super.

We were very disappointed in the entertainment, especially the Rock of Ages

which was not suitable for children. It was not Broadway Standard as advertised.

The disembarking process was very bad and needs to be improved. They should

have a line for senior citizens and not have them pushed around like cattle

Disappointed by bgribinmd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was my 11th cruise but only second Norwegian.  Last norwegian 20 years ago and won't go again for 20 more.   Itinerary changed last minute to eliminate private island but stay overnight in Bahamas and leave 10am next day?  Blue lagoon excursion terrible and rushed.  Luggage misplaced.  Food allergies a disaster first few days.  Female bartenders nasty.  Bars and restaurants understaffed.  Kids Club 2 hours to register then threatened to put our 7 year old kids in the corner for talking.  Outlets stopped working in room 11pm multiple phone calls finally fixed 1am needed for sleep apnea machine.  Very little family or kid activities.  No real comedy or magic shows.  Improv. comedy only and not very funny.  Embarkation took forever.

Savor dining and Irish pub excellent.

Never a dull moment by Dreamwayz

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

After  being on the Norwegian Gem within the last three years I decided to book the Norwegian breakaway for a girlfriends week vacation.  There really is never a dull moment on the ship, from the amazing food to the daily shows to the game shows, it was a wonderful time. Definetly one of the best cruise ship companies by far.

The goal of our trip was to experience a cruise and rest.

Had we booked according to destination and itinerary, we would have been greatly disappointed.

Our Cruise on the Norwegian Breakaway by nando413

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Our family had a great time, the ship is beautiful and they have many events to keep everyone on the family busy. our only issue was that there was too many unsupervised kids running around, pressing all the buttons in the elevators, annoying passengers. The weather was perfect to go swimming and the hot tubs were amazing. we had the Ultimate beverage package, everywhere we went we had a drink in hand. I already have another cruise set for next year.

A great vacation by ropanoma

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We totally enjoyed the food and entertainment, except for the specialty restaurant, Moderno.  The meat was dry and salty but the salad bar was great.  Cirque was fabulous and we enjoyed "Rock of Ages" and "Burn the Floor."  The entertainment in the Atrium and lounges was also exceptional.  All the crew were great and there were so many crew members, even though there were almost 4000 guests.  My biggest complaint would be disembarking.  We opted for a 9:15 time and waited in line until almost 11:30 to leave the terminal.  Thank goodness, the weather was good or we would have been really miserable.

Cruise review by jeanopat

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The boat was beautiful but it could have had some more complimentary services. The didn't have any special meals on the decks, like a bbq, they could have had more food available instead of just hotdog carts.

They came around once with fruit sticks, but it could have had more of food stations. Also the complimentary restaurants now upcharge for a more expensive meal.

Felt like a Senior citizen home on sea who thought they were 21 YR old drunks on spring break. by bourdonsimon

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This time I decided to pay more to go on a cruise thinking that the crowded would be more educated and civil. 50-80 yr old who were drunk by noon and pretending they were in they mid 20 yrs from the act of it, wearing clothing I wouldn't even want to see on a well groomed person.

You'd stand patiently in line for your food while others would just bud in and jump the line. Loud passengers. Most of them traveled in groups and all of them would yell and talk loud at the same time while you were trying to relax or enjoy.

We were on our honeymoon and we couldn't wait to be off the ship day 3. No complimentary gesture from the ship for people celebrating an event on their ship wish is probably the reason why they book the cruise. We did get a coupon for a cake in concerned to our honeymoon which we didn't even use. You get free dessert on the ship so the coupon for the honeymoon cake seemed stupid, and frankly the desert all tasted like boxed pre mix desserts. Nothing special. I would have been happy with a bouquet of flowers in the room, or petals on the bed, or a bottle of wine with a sweet note. I do understand they sell packages for such things but if I had to pay additional money after what we spent on our ticket and drinks I'd buy my own package in nyc and have my own proper celebration for the money I'd give them in addition to our tickets to buy a package for romance.

Over all the experience was horrible for us, but if you'd like to drink, smoke, at a elderly home, and feel like sardine in a can it might be for you. Not my way of relaxing or enjoying life.

Great vacation by cross24175

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The wine musical was great,  we also had a great time on our Excursion in Port Canaveral through Sobe surf. The hot tubs could have been a little bit harder and I believe most of the staff did a great job making everybody feel welcome

Family with small kids by babyblue12831

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This is our second trip on this ship. The experience was so much better the first time. This time was not what we where expecting. Every single meal was cold ( 4 nights where at a specialty restaurant). The dinner took about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. With 2 small kids. That is way to long. Last year dinner was only 1 hour. The kid pool was nasty. The rock with the palm trees. Had black mold on it. My kids bathing suits are trashed. They where covered in mold.

On a good note all the shows where great and our room was so clean.

First Time Cruise by jcf2466

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was our first cruise and we were extremely happy with everything. There was so much to do and experience we couldn't possible fit it all in. We played games, watched shows, ate and drank to our hearts content and had a very pleasant time. The only downfall for me was the complimentary food choices. While the food was great , almost every complimentary restaurant serves the same meals so the selection at those places was limited. The buffet was good and the specialty dining was excellent. I would like to see different choices at the complimentary full service restaurants.Otherwise we had a great experience and look forward to doing it again.

Smoke with food yuk! by mikecotto

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Favorite part was the food and entertainment.

My not so favorite part was the cigarette smoke combined with my food in the noodle bar. The casino smoking was really out of hand. There is just no reason why so many non smokers should have to suffer and if I go to my room to get away from the smoke it follows me there too. You see the balcony smokers are the worst ones and we unfortunately were surrounded by them. So much for having a balcony and enjoying the outdoors.

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group

Wish some of the activities were earlier instead of so late at night...Also when leaving the ship I had no idea that we were suppose to wait downstairs all that time we waited in the room for the color code...so if you can let people know....the cleaning people were not happy ....
