Norwegian Breakaway

7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Port Canaveral Roundtrip)

Ship: Norwegian Breakaway

Cabin type: Balcony

Cabin number: 12246

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

On a scale of 1-10, I would give you a 2. I have been on many ships and this one by far left the most to be desired. We tried Norwegian once before, weren't really all that impressed then but decided to give another try--very bad decision!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
2 1/2 hours to get a dinner in the main dining rooms is absurd! Specialty restaurants have a long way to go before they live up to that name! Cagney's had the worst prime rib I have ever had, three shrimp in a shrimp cocktail--can get better at our local restaurants and they are not rated "specialty" - Rice at Tepanaki was only half cooked. Buffet is laid out all wrong--how do you have a grill where you get hot eggs, and then have toast, bagels, etc. at the other end of the buffet? The list could go on but I will run out of room!

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5

Entertainment

2 out of 5
The only really good things that we saw were the comedians and the "Burn the Floor" show--all else, including the various things in the Atrium, were below par, plus the constant smoke smell bleeding from the casino made it impossible to sit and enjoy anything.

Children's Programs

No children

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Our room steward, Francis, was top of the line-Room was 12246. The noise in the area of Guest Services made it impossible to even talk to one of the desk attendants. Waiters/waitress seems more interested in what was going on around them than the customers needs.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
This is the first ship I have been on that did not have a center elevator! To have to walk the distance that we did was a hardship for my husband with COPD and I am sure that he was not the only one that struggled. Common areas were maintained very well.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Most of this rating was due to Francis and his efforts! Bed was very comfortable, no diet soda in the mini-bar.

Ship tip

Don't!

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

4 out of 5

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

1 out of 5
Third world country-would take this off the list of places to visit!

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

5 out of 5
Excellent stop but don't understand why we would get 8+ hours in Tortola and a shorter time in St.Thomas--so much more to do there and a much better stop!

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

3 out of 5
Hamburger was good, $40.00 for a clamshell a ripoff, drinks could use a little more alchol!

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
To walk from one end of the ship back to the other end to disembark is absurd!

Wow! I'm not sure I get it. If your travel agent booked you on a ship that didn't meet your needs (and I am not negating them), that's on them - not NCL. As well, if you booked it yourself, then shame on you for picking a ship that is built that way. Cruise lines have tons of different configurations for ships and deck plans galore - there should be no surprises. As well, you seem to be hell-bent on bashing NCL in your review including paying $40 for clamshell on Great Stirrup Cay which I assume is from the Straw Market which is run by locals and not the cruise line. Sad that you failed to capitalize on the fact that you can afford a nice cruise when many people cant. Just saying...

Do you have any positive thing to say

I also love NCL!! Going on the Breakaway in July. I am sure I will have a great experience. Sorry you had a bad cruise. Your exceptions seem high. Try one of the higher priced cruise lines like Holland America!!!

I love Norwegian and had a much different experience then you did on the same cruise. Very glad you will not be on Norwegian going forward. I hope you find the CruiseLine that works for you.

Wow I really don’t think NCL is for you! Sorry you had a horrible cruise!

Well they can't exactly have all of your particular food choices at the same spot in the buffet. At a big buffet, food items will be spread around or else picky people will complain that there are too few items.

Sorry for your disappointment
