The islands and shore excursions were very good. The cruise ship itself was too large and too crowded for our tastes.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
There were two medical emergencies on the previous Breakaway cruise which delayed its arrival, so we were unable to board our ship until 2:30am.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
We ate in the main dining rooms, buffet, and O'Sheehan's. After about 10 days, the menus became too familiar, although the food was good.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
My wife and I really didn't participate in the onboard activities, so it probably isn't fair to rate them.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
We saw only two shows in the theather--Burn the Floor, and Them
Guys. We chose not to attend the "raunchy" "Rock of Ages" nor the "Queen" tribute which we heard was vulgar. Would have prefered more wholesome entertainment as we have experienced on other Norwegian cruises.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
The overall staff was very good. Our room steward seemed to be distracted as we did not get clean sheets as often as we felt we should have. And the room was not made up with the usual Norwegian "flair"--towel animals to greet us after a day of shore excursions, no ice after hot days ashore, etc.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The ship was basically clean, but there was fairly stong cigarette and cigar smoke smell in many of the main halllways. Considering the size of the ship, we would have preferred more main dining rooms and a greater variety of menu items--especially on a 15-day cruise.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
The cabin was comfortable, although it felt smaller than any other balcony/mini-suite we have had before on Norwegian.
Ship tip
If you are looking for a quiet getaway, you might want to consider a smaller Norwegian ship.
Not New York's fault, but there was a Noreaster--strong winds, cold, rainy--which made our time in the city rather miserable. Also, we were not prepared to have to spend the entire day in the city.
Very nice island. Took an excursion to the sulphur springs, the pitons, and a waterfall. ON the return trip, the tour guide treated us to bread and cheese which were excellent.
This was OK. We did not take an excursion, but walked to the downtown area. We were hounded by locals wanting to give us a taxi ride, excursion, have us eat at their restaurant, have us visit their shop, etc. We did find a nice coffee shop where we were able to relax away from the crowds.
