Review summary

This was the cruise from Purgatory! I am a Gold Latitudes Member and I am seriously debating ever cruising with Norwegian again. Skipping Aruba was totally unacceptable! Giving us the cost of one day of the cruise we missed plus $11 port charges per person, is again unacceptable. Giving us 25% of the cost of this cruise off another cruise with in a year, is also unacceptable. They owe all of us at least a 50% discount off our next cruise for all the disappointment and aggravation we suffered on this cruise!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Great because almost everyone, due to the weather, got on the ship the night before they sailed.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food was good and service was excellent.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Water slides were closed due to cracks that happened on the previous cruise. We were never told until they sailed. Only activities were Bingo, Gambling, Drinking, Miniature Golf and Rock Climbing. They need more shows during the day for people who aren't the above activities.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Shows, for the most part were very good. We have been on three Norwegian Breakaway Cruises and the shows haven't changed.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The service we received from the entire staff was excellent. I don't know how these people can work 10+ hour days every day and still seem so cheerful.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Common areas seemed clean. Ships layout took a few days to get used to on our first cruise. After a few days it was pretty easy to find your way around.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin seemed a little smaller than one we had a couple of years ago, but it was okay for the two of us. Again, it seemed clean. We didn't get to use the balcony much because it was windy when the ship was cruising.

Ship tip

Although, for the most part, I rated the ship pretty well I have noticed an abundance of electric wheel chairs on my last two Breakaway cruises. Besides having to play dodgem with these wheel chair operators, I wonder what would happen if there ever was a real emergency and we had to abandon ship.

Ports of call

New York, New York

5 out of 5
The four ports we visited we okay. I wouldn't visit Barbados again.

Oranjestad, Aruba Did not visit port

A Norwegian decision due to the day we lost to the snow storm and a medical emergency on board. We took this cruise specifically to visit Aruba and the reason not to do so didn't make any sense. If we could make Curacao we definitely could have made Aruba!

Willemstad, Curacao

5 out of 5
Did an excursion, but not with the ship. Their prices we TOO high.

Bridgetown, Barbados

3 out of 5
Did an excursion, but again not with the ship. Prices too high.

Castries, St. Lucia

5 out of 5

St. John's, Antigua

5 out of 5

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
This was the worst disembarkation we have ever had. They got us off the ship only to stand in the cold for over an hour while they let people with wheel chairs and disabled people off first, even though they were in a covered exit ramp and we were in the cold. There was little consideration for the people standing in the cold and there was no organization.

Thanks for sharing your cruise.

My husband and I have discussed what would happen if there were an emergency on board the Breakaway. The passageways are very narrow and the room attendants leave bags or garbage and their cleaning carts in the passageways for most of the day. In addition, there is a lack of staircases. The answer is, in an emergency, everyone on that ship is in deep trouble.

Was this a recent cruise that they just skipped Aruba and why did they skip it?

Curious about missing Aruba. I heard it was a medical emergency. If that's true, how can NCL provide more than they did? I read the fine print, and there are many instances where NCL can alter the cruise ports, etc. Personally, I'm going on a trip so if I'm on the ship, it's warm and they are feeding and entertaining me, I'll be happy. Sounds to me like they provided satisfactory compensation. 50% off for missing one port... Wonder who is being taken advantage of?
