Review summary

This was my first cruise and it was a very good experience. My only issues were with the weather disrupting shore excursions (which is disappointing, but not something the cruise line can do anything about), and one of the shore excursions was briefer than promised.

Bad weather cancelled our share excursion so I can't give a real description of this shore excursion.

Our shore excursion (native village) was fine, but was very rushed because the company was very concerned about getting the people who chose the native village and the lumberjack show to the show. I would have been happier spending more time at the village and be transported on a different bus.

We had a similar experience our first time. We tried to see too much in a short period of time. Alaska is wonderful, but we limited ourselves to shorter excursions and took advantage of the ones that included fresh seafood. On our first Med, we scaled back the number of excursions and (even though the cruise line encourages you to book excursions through them) booked excursions on our own. We found them much less expensive, smaller groups, and more informative. We made it clear as to what time we needed to be back at the ship, and they always came through for us. Med ports are much longer port days, 10-14 hours. So we were able to sleep in and do our own thing at our own pace. My point is you can’t see or do it all, and bad weather is a common occurrence in Alaska. Make sure you take time to stop and take it all in. As you said, you felt rushed. Maybe in the future, do your own thing. Probably save money and have a way better time anyway. πŸ˜€πŸ˜€
