Look for a different cruise to Alaska that gives you time in the ports to explore and avoid any that include Icy Straight Point. We had departure times in the ports of 07:00 in the morning and had to be back the ship by noon which was too early for me while in holidays.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
Once we arrived and to the terminal the check in process was very streamlined but once through we sat in a large waiting are for over an hour with no wifi that was working and they kept turning off the lights.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
The dining rooms Taste & Savor had the worst service that I have ever had and was worse that Denny's @ 2:00am / By contrast the specialty restaurants had fantastic service.
Teppanyaki
5 out of 5
The food was outstanding and if you get a good cook the show is also really good. Our cook was OK but the one at the table next to ours that was about 20 minutes ahead of use was great so we where all watching him
Cagney's Steakhouse
5 out of 5
We went to the restaurant on my birthday and the steaks where all fantastic
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
The Pool was nice as where the hot tubs, The slides, go-carts, laser tag and mini golf (only 5 holes) where closed over 50% of the time
Entertainment
3 out of 5
The Jersey Boys was fantastic, I couldn't get into a single comedy show as they all filled up before we boarded at 11:30 on embarkation day.
Children's Programs
4 out of 5
Our 17 year old son had a good time in the teen club and made some new friends
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
We had the best room steward that I have ever had on a cruise.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The layout was easy to navigate and ship never was dirty that saw.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
The cabin was small and with 2 adults and 1 teenager in it it was tight but it was kept exceptionally clean by the room steward
Ship tip
Book shows the second you get on board as they fill up within the first hour of boarding.
what a waste of time and a money grab with nothing to do or see unless you spend $50.00 each for the Gondola to the top of the mountain and then the only thing was a zip slide that costs over $150.00.
Beautiful City but we arrived well after 8:00pm so almost everything was closed and it was already getting dark by the time we could get off the ship so we didn't get to see anything other than the inner harbour.
We left the bags out the night before and where off the ship at our scheduled time and the complaint is that our bags where spread out all over the warehouse and not all together so it took time to locate all 5 of them
Why do so many book a cruise without researching port times, excursions, etc., then complain about short port times, excursion prices, or there was nothing to do?
Most of the round-trip cruises from Seattle have short port times. Book a one-way from Vancouver to Alaska or the reverse for more time in the ports. Icy Straight Point is an excellent port with great tours for whale watching, Bear excursions, nice hiking trails, world’s longest zip line, restored cannery, amazing scenery, etc.
