Review summary

The Bliss is a nice ship, but truth be told, if I was to book another Alaskan cruise, I'd compare time in port and go with the ship that gave us the most time in port. This was our 24th cruise, but I don't see going to Alaska over and over, so I sort of regretted basing our pick on the ship instead of itinerary.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Quick to get through the process, but we were set up as 9:30am to 10am and we ended up sitting in a large room and waiting till around 10:45am to start boarding. All in all, not bad.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The local is great. The buffet is alright, but seemed repetitive.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
It was Alaska, we weren't going to be outside enjoying most of the things on deck, even if it was July.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Jersey Boys was excellent, probably the best cruise ship show we've ever seen on 24 cruises, however Havana was a sleeper for me... The Beatlemania band was pretty entertaining.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The bartenders at The Local stood out, especially Merwyn.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was nice. Not the nicest we've been on, but nice.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Mini suite was nice because of the larger shower and sink. Other than that, it was a normal room. We did spend more time on our balcony in Alaska than we normally do in the Caribbean.

Ship tip

Get to the buffet when it first opens every time. Disembarkation in port is a nightmare wtih no organization by the crew, so get in line extra early if it's important to you.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

3 out of 5
Not a big fan of Seattle. Lots of homeless people as well. We stayed at the Marriott Waterfront across the street from the port and it was an excellent choice, albeit expensive.

Cruise Inside Passage, Alaska

3 out of 5

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
Took the tram up the hill for a short time, then explored the town.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Took the train, which was nice, then explored the town after. Enjoyed the town.

Cruise Glacier Bay

4 out of 5
It was nice, but more or less just a slow day of cruising.

Ketchikan, Alaska

4 out of 5
Way too short, hardly got to walk around much before it was time to get back on board. Seemed like it might be a nice place to explore further.

Victoria, British Columbia

Waste of time in our opinion, but due to international laws, we had to make a stop in a foreign port.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Did the Port Valet service which was really nice. We were off and in an Uber very quickly with no worries about luggage.

How was "Jersey Boys"? I'm going in Feb. so I might see the same show.

Are we talking about an hour or two max more a day in a port.....really??!? Maybe you should go consider visiting the ports and staying in a hotel at each.

Following. Same for us as CourtneyV. Travel agents rave about the Bliss.

We picked The Bliss due to more food options and the fact that it’s one of the only that goes to Glacier Bay, not a specific glacier like Dawes or Tracy Arm Fjord. We tend to like smaller ships though. Based on your review, it seems like the food and the extras on The Bliss (laser tag, go-carts, extra restaurants) weren’t worth it... thoughts? Advice? 😕 Starting to worry that I booked the wrong cruise... 😫
