If you take the forward elevator to the Lido deck, be aware that you have to take a bit of a convoluted loop around the spa area to get to the pool and buffet. This is the one thing that I saw a lot of people struggling with.

Wait until the ship goes through a major overhaul and check who the Captain is going to be. This Captain did not run a tight ship.

It's a smaller, calmer ship where the vast majority of passengers seem to be in bed by 1 a.m.

After our experience, I would not recommend the Noordam and further would recommend choosing another cruiseline altogether.

There is no laundry machines and they charge ,$25 for a very small bag of laundry. Wouldn't be an issue for a short cruise but we were on board for a month.

If you want HAL shore excursions, book early as the best sell out. Don't hesitate to book excursions through TripAdvisor instead. We did and these were often in mini-buses instead of the HAL 50 passenger buses - much more personal. Do not book cruises.com excursions as our only experience with these was they require a 14-day cancellation and you don't know if your ship will skip a port because of weather. TripAdvisor allows a 24 hour cancellation, and in one case we cancelled same day when the ship couldn't port and got a full refund.

Allow yourself extra time in Sydney and Auckland to explore the cities. Our flight booked by cruise line. If returning to the USA especially the east coast be prepared for a very long day. My flight left Auckland to Sydney at 6:30 am ( breakfast served). Flight left Sydney to San Francisco at 9:30 am 13+ hours ( breakfast, snack and dinner served) Time change from day to night back to day arrive in San Francisco 11:30 am Monday morning again. Flight from San Francisco to the east coast 10:30 pm after spending 10+ hours in freezing SF airport. Arrived on the east coast 7:30 am Tuesday morning.

Great midsized ship. Never waited for an elevator and can't remember standing in a line! Ship was at capacity but best experience regarding no crowds! Excellent embarkation and debarkation. Excellent off and on the ship at ports!

This was a very laid back cruise. Not much to do on the ship entertainment wise. People spent most of the time on deck in pajamas. Food was mediocre in the dining room.

The Ocean Bar has some seats by a window that are a great place to be in the evening if you don't want to go to a show.

Do your research for the return home. Even though we booked a day long activity / transfer from Whittier to Anchorage, we arrived a the airport and still had to wait 8 hours before our flight. Anchorage airport only accepts luggage 4 hours before departure + luggage storage service is only available until 7PM, so we had to sit and watch our luggage for 4 hours, not the best way to spend an afternoon.
