Be aware of the hidden costs on the HAL up sell with everything, gratuities especially , we went up to desk and had removed , we gave to who we wanted . If we had left on it would have been another $500 aud . $18 aud per day.

Agree with previous comments. Several crew members work behind the scenes.

The crew appreciation charges are not a hidden cost. If you bothered to read the details about your cruise that were provided to you or are found on the web site you would know that HA charges $16 per day for regular rooms and $17.50 for suites. Having cruised before you would know that. The main motivation for removing the tips is to save money not to redistribute it in a different way. All lines chose to pay their employees in this fashion HA is no different. All you did was get an overall cheaper fare at the expense of the people who were taking care of you while you enjoyed a luxury vacation. You should be ashamed but judging how you boasted about it that’s doubtful.

karlgrgurich is exactly right. I do think that people feel they get less service for higher gratuities these days though. But that’s not the fault of the staff, they are doing more work and probably not seeing much more reward if any at all. Both sides are entitled to feel hard done by. Just the way it is now cruise lines are trying to recoup money unfortunately.

All cruise lines have automatic gratuities. And all staff deserve them
