Our room steward tried his best to be friendly and nice, but he did not know how to properly clean a room at all! When needed the most the concierge service was useless.

Horribly dirty! Leaking water overhead in most hallways (including our room) with buckets catching the water that we had to walk around each day... terribly old and outdated for sure. We also had to wait almost every time for a table to be cleaned off correctly before we could sit to eat.

Oh my where do I start? 1. Our room was FILTHY, and it stunk like a urinal the whole time! When I complained, a detergent was added to the water to hide the smell. Each time we flushed though the horrible smell returned! I finally investigated further myself to see why and where the smell was coming from. What I found was terribly discussing!!! Under the toilet rim I found built up black, stinking, hard, moldy buildup from NOT being cleaned properly at all which obviously held the strong urine smell! (I added the photos here) 2. Our first night the bedsheets obviously did not appear to be clean and in a crisp state as one would expect. You could see where someone sat on the edge of the bed long enough to leave a wrinkled, grey dirty section behind. I had them changed right away of course! On the second night they changed the sheets for us, and they definitely looked, felt, and smell clean as they should have upon arrival! 3. Our bathroom sink was cracked and the old paint that was used to cover it up was peeling off allowing paint chips to cling to my washcloth if I tried to use the sink. I complained about the cracked sink because I was mostly worried it might leak on our personal items stored on the shelf below. We were told they would have to fix the cracked sink when the ship unloaded at the final destination. I BET MY LIFE that if someone looked in Noordam room 7102 today it would not be repaired at all as they said they would!! 4. At one point we also noticed the shower head was cracked and barely holding on. Eventually it completely broke off causing us not to be able to shower before the expected time of one of our excursions and for dinner reservations that night because we had to wait for a repair person! 5. We had a leak from the vent in the ceiling right above our cabin door which would drip on us as we entered and exited our room or when we were standing at the closet trying to dress! When we finally had enough, I went to the concierge desk asking for a new room. I was denied a different room and was told that room 7102 had to be inspected first to check out my complaints. VIA a note left on our door mind you, we had to wait outside our room until after 9PM that night to allow driers to run in there to dry the carpet out. All their concerns and actions did for us was rob us of the relaxation and use of our room when we needed to be in there! We know for a FACT that the ship was 250 passenger light so there was no reason to not just give us a suitable room! We booked this cruise in good faith to celebrate our 35-wedding anniversary. PLUS, I had recently lost my father in death and used money I got from his estate to make this a special celebration of life for him and for our anniversary. Needless to say, I spent the first few nights very hurt, disappointed, angry, and crying. We had no choice but to just deal with our disappointment and try to enjoy the remainder of our vacation. I truly hope all of you who plan a vacation really THINK TWICE before booking with Holland America and especially the Noordam ship! Deb Becker, Heartbroken in Colorado, USA

Sorry for your disappointment. We did back to backs on Noordham last year. Great team. Decent MDR. Great room steward. The rest? A 2 out of 5 at best.

That toilet was disgusting. I usually clean our cabin on arrival, but only the outside of the toilet

Yikes, how disappointing. I'm so sorry for your loss. This scares me as we have the Noordam booked early next year. I have read that they are going to dock it and update later this year. I sure hope that's the case, as our trip is a VERY expensive bucket list trip and would be very upset like you. 🙏 After this, I think I'm going to stick with newer ships. These trips cost a lot to deal with what you just went through.
