Review summary

The cruise to Alaska was our fourth cruise, overall. I’d also say it was our best cruise. We spent the extra money for a suite and did not regret the decision one bit. The staff was fabulous and the deals we received on Effy jewelry on the ship was phenomenal. Effy is sold in Saks 5th Ave. and Macy’s however when purchasing on ship you’re buying directly from the manufacturer so they were able to be a little more flexible with the pricing. If I were to do this cruise over again I would set sail earlier in the summer. Although the scenery in September was beautiful, it also rained quite a bit.

Embarkation

Quick and easy

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Overall, the cuisine was very good. One night in the Dining Room the chicken was a bit dry, but that’s my only negative comment about the food. Rudy’s Sel de Mer was absolutely phenomenal!! French Seafood at its finest!! If this one night experience is available on your cruise, DO NOT miss it!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The onboard activities were plentiful with something to do for everyone!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff was second to none! Polite, friendly and personable!!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was clean and well-maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our suite was extremely comfortable! Enough room to easily move about with a separate sitting area and sofa. It was quiet and dark at night with motion sensor floor night lights to assist if getting up in the middle of the night.

Ship tip

Don’t pass on Rudi’s Sel de Mer dinner. It was the best salmon I ever had. My wife, an avid lobster gormandizer, raved about her lobster dinner.

Ports of call

Whittier (Anchorage), Alaska

5 out of 5
Embarked from Whittier, about 1.5 hours south of Anchorage. The cruise line set up transportation from Anchorage.

Cruise Hubbard Glacier

5 out of 5
We checked out Hubbard glacier and it was ominous. The experience of looking at at glacier thousands, if not millions of years old was breathtaking.

Cruise Glacier Bay

5 out of 5
Lots of glaciers to see in Glacier bay.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
We had two excursions planned however one was canceled due to stormy weather. We did not get to go on the helicopter ride to stand on the glacier. That was certainly a bucket list item that will have to pursue in the future. The second excursion was the Good Time Girls/Ghost Stories Walking Tour. I’d say of all the excursions this was the best. It was a two hour go to tour through Skagway and we learned about the history and many things about Skagway.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
We took time to do some shopping in Juneau. Plenty of jewelry stores to visit.

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
Ketchikan is the southernmost port in Alaska. We walk the streets and did some sightseeing.

Cruise Inside Passage, Alaska

5 out of 5
Play of beautiful sites as we near Vancouver. The landscape is simply beautiful.

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

5 out of 5
So we spent the night in Vancouver before heading to the airport the next day. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see very much because we were tired from the cruise.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Disembarkation was about as easy as the embarkation. Going through customs was a breeze.
