Been on 3 cruises and this was the best one

I traveled on the Nieuw Amsterdam with my parents and sister (we are both adults, but still love traveling with our parents). We had a great time relaxing and being active whenever we wanted. There were lots of activities and nice stops. (although some were quite short if you did not want to get off the ship at 7am.) We went to the art auctions, and although had no intention of buying anything considerable - I walked away an art collector. It was loads of fun and the auction staff were wonderful! While the ship has all of the basic amenities, including the popular adults-only pool and whirlpools, it can not compete with the mega ships.

They cancel 1 stop for bad weather and the weather wasnt bad. They return us only 17,82$ and a glass of champagne. The room service was late 1 hour every time that we ordered including one glass of water.

My wife and I recently spent six day on the Nieuw Amsterdam for our honey moon and I have to say it was awesome ship as well as cruise. When you first walk into the ship you see right away how rich it looks from the polished brass to the glass elevators. We had a balcony state room and we could not believe the room we had, my wife has cruised more often than I have and she could not believe the size of the bathroom. I understand that it might not be important to some but when you can relax and take a bath with no kids its great. As typical with all cruises there was tons of food to be had but I have to say the food on this ship was out of the world. I know each person likes things a certain way but I have eaten and some great restaurants and this place meet or exceed each of them. The service was excellent as well and they know how to correct a problem if you have without any questions asked. If you are looking for a cruise with style and class then take on the Nieuw Amsterdam.

Ship is clean and comfortable. The shopping area and casino are smaller, but rooms are larger than other cruise lines. Food is wonderful. Most of the staff is amazing, did find a few employees to be rude.

This could have been a perfect cruise, but our entire trip was spoiled by the pitch (up and down motion) and roll (side to side motion) of this ship in what I considered decent seas (4-6 feet) and the vibration of the ships engines felt in our stateroom on deck 10. No one seemed to explain this. One could watch the passengers walk side to side down the halls most of the time. This ship needs larger stabilizers. This is our 4th cruise, all on different lines, and this ship was the worst when it comes to motion. We purchased "unspecified stateroom" which HAL selected a week before sailing and they put us on deck 10 in the front of the ship. Nice room if you are an experienced sailor but you can give me deck 7 midship any day (Not that it would have mattered on this ship). Yes, I used the patch. Everything else was great, as you will see below.

The ship was beautiful. However it seems as if there were still some rough edges on a new ship. Maybe I was biased because I knew it was a European based cruise line - but I felt like the ship was part of the "Ikea Class" - cheaper than it looks.

Food buffet was not comparable to what I seen on other ships. Entertainment was good but a lot of repetition. Every night with the exception of one was singing shows with the same people every night with not much variety. Ship was very clean and the staff were the most friendly and helpful of any I have been on before.

Nieuw Amsterdam is a relatively new ship. It was clean and well taken care of. Crew was attentive and offered great service.

See individual comments. Would have liked more information earlier about local restaurants, points of interst and transportation options (e.g. car rentals, taxis, etc.).

Staff very friendly and helpful, although one staff member in photography could have had an attitude adjustment. Overall, very clean, very efficiently run, fun place to play. The experience was fabulous, and the exit and entry to various ports of call were made very smooth and efficient.

The ship was marvellous. The excursion were very expensive. They should have a better price for just transfer. Example. Going from Livorno to Florence, by bus no excursion. 104$. You can have the same transfer with an excusion of Celebrity at 69$.

Excellent impression. Very well maintained. Friendly crews.
