Review summary

We enjoyed our cruise immensely. We were very disappointed with the lack of onboard activities ( line dancing opportunities, organized games/sports, etc. and quickly realized that our active adult children would be very bored. It seemed like there was no entertainment staff with the exception of a CD and an ED. The food was excellent and the ship beautiful.

Embarkation

Seem less and quick

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food was excellent in both the Main Dining Room and Lido Market. Loved having the option to dine outside.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
Would have appreciated more options of activities to do especially on sea days. The uninspired and limited list of activities was our only disappointment with this ship.

Entertainment

3 out of 5

Atrium

1 out of 5

Delightfully decorated meeting spot and future cruise waiting room.

Screening Room

1 out of 5

Movies on MainStage. Scheduling conflict resulted in movie cancellation one day resulting in several disappointed guests.

Crow's Nest

3 out of 5

Lovely area for reading and games/puzzles available. Coffee available early morning unfortunately bar closed before 10 most nights.

B.B. King's Blues Club

5 out of 5

The BEST every night

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff was great and the service incredible.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship is very clean and well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Not spacious - but not really cramped. The cabin had an extended balcony and was larger then I expected. The location was close enough to elevators/stairs to make cabin location ideal but not noisy. Lots of storage and a small couch. The bed was very comfortable. There were no “unusual” smells.

Ship tip

Come prepared for limited available activities and crowded entertainment venues( BBKing & Billboard)

Ports of call

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

5 out of 5
We had a private tour of the island of St. John. Amazing day on St.John.

Grand Turk Island

4 out of 5
We did a self guided tour here and what started out as a “what were we thinking moment” morphed into an amazing adventure. We visited the museum, Methodist Church and cemetery and met the most delightful locals.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

4 out of 5
We hired a private taxi to give us an overview tour of Old San Juan. Great (and funny) guide and a bargain at $10.00. After the tour we roamed OSJ and enjoyed a couple of adult beverages on cobblestone streets, interacting with locals and taking in the beautiful culture.

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

5 out of 5
How can a beautiful beach be anything lass than perfect?

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
Disembarkation was very slow but this was not the fault of HAL. The were not enough customs agents available to handle the influx of passengers. Global Entry guests breezed off.

We thought the same thing about activities and didn’t like the shows at all. But we knew it was geared towards an older crowd and didn’t mind at all. It’s a great ship and the food was absolutely delicious. Hope you tried the hamburgs at the Dive-In. Best we ever had. Love how they serve you at the buffet and we loved the food there also. MDR food fantastic. Loved all our ports. Loved sitting by the pool with no loud DJs or bands. Piped in music was great, So peaceful. Had a great time and would love to go on the Nieuw Amsterdam again. Our cabin steward always greeted us by name everyday and asked how we liked the ports. Cabin always spotless. Never had to ask for anything. Loved it
